February is Fall in Love with Books Month!
During the month of February, parents can choose to donate a book to the Learning Commons dedicated to their own child! Students who participate will come to the Learning Commons and choose a new book to purchase for the Learning Commons. The book will get a special dedication nameplate and the student will get to be the first one to check it out! Donations can be $5, $10, $15, or any other amount.
Thursdays in the Makerspace
• We have begun an after school option called "Thursdays in the Makerspace." Parents can email Mrs. Madoff Mondays through Thursdays to reserve a spot for their child in the Makerspace on Thursday afternoons from 3:15-4:15. There is no charge for this program. Students in grades 2-5 can build, take apart electronics, use the 3D printer, or work on design software under the supervision of Mrs. Madoff. Since there is a limit of 10 students per week, parents need to send their email as early in the week as possible and will receive a response quickly from Mrs. Madoff.
Fifth Grade
•In fifth grade, students have been using the Learning Commons to build periscopes, do research, and build musical instruments as part of their Light and Sound unit. Bringing in materials from home, they have been able to really focus on the Engineering Design Process!
Fourth Grade
•Students in Fourth Grade have been building Rube Goldberg machines in the Learning Commons as part of their Forces and Motion IB Unit. It is truly amazing to see their creativity and problem solving skills at work!
Second Grade
•Second graders are using the digital resources Pebblego and World Book Kids to research holidays around the world as part of their Flavor of Cultures Unit. They have learned how to take Cornell notes, locate digital resources, and will complete a culminating project to demonstrate their learning very soon!
ISDy News Team
•The ISDy Channel is going strong with a wonderful second crew! Despite several snowdays and holidays the news teamhas conducted many interviews and surveys around the building using our new Canon video recorders and microphones. The production crew, including anchors, directors, and teleprompter operators, has been creating wonderful news shows using the footage created by student reporters and camera people. Be sure to watch the show each week on the ISD homepage!
