Wilson Creek News
Manhattan School District 114
September 2020
One week of the 2020-2021 school year is behind us. We did it! Thank you to parents, grandparents, caregivers, daycare centers, neighbors, and everyone that worked together to support our students as they engaged in remote learning. This is truly taking a village. We learned a lot in the first week and you're all doing a GREAT job! We're so grateful for your patience, understanding, and support of us and your students.
As we move into next week, you will see that our schedule will look more "normal." Whereas last week, zoom calls may have been longer or shorter than expected, this week we'll work toward live instructional times that lead into independent work time within the larger block. Also, please keep in mind that the pre-recorded videos are scheduled into the day but can absolutely be used with flexibility to fit your family's schedule and preferences.
This newsletter contains A LOT of information. Important information is included related to acquiring additional iPads, family shirts, and tech tips. Please read when you can!
Welcome, Nurse Leann Snider!
Hello Wilson Creek Families! My name is Leann Snider and I am the new school nurse! I am looking forward to meeting students and families when we return to in-person learning. Please keep in mind that even though our students are not here in the building, we still need their health forms turned into the office. Preschool (EC, PFA) needs a physical. Kindergarten needs an eye exam, dental exam and physical. Second grade needs a dental exam. Don’t forget - the physical needs to be signed by the parent! If you have any questions or concerns, please connect with me by phone (815.478.4527) or email (lsnider@manhattan114.org). Stay healthy!

Please note, if you are up and running with a personal device and do not need an additional device for your child, we'd greatly appreciate your continued use with that device. Due to a need for replacing devices that have proven unusable as well as increased enrollment, our device availability could become limited.
Please note with all devices new or old, Zoom utilizes an incredible amount of battery life. Your child's device may need to be plugged into the charger at all times to endure the usage of a full day of remote learning.
Wilson Creek Family System
In 2017, Wilson Creek adopted a family system to build community, kids of strong character, and pride within our school. There are seven families, each one representing a mindset or character trait. Further, each family is named after a person or family in Manhattan’s history. School families work together to earn points for class behavior, celebrate their mindset or trait, build multi-grade level relationships, and make up our greater Wilson Creek family. You will see your child’s family symbol and color weaved into many aspects of our school year. Students and staff are also encouraged to wear their family color or Manhattan spirit wear on Fridays.
Due to the unique circumstances of this year, we will offer an online store for purchasing of our Family Shirts. The store should be set up and live in the next few days and will be shared by email to all families. Shirts will cost under $10 and can be worn every Friday! If you aren't sure of your child's family or color, please see below!
Stay tuned for more information related to Family of the Month and Virtual School Pride Assemblies and Activities!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if we can help clarify anything, provide direction, or do our best to answer questions that you have. We are here for you.
Sincerely,
Kim Maher, Principal
