WELCOME BACK STUDENTS AND FAMILIES!
We have quite the busy month ahead of us as we switch gears and get ready for course selection for the 2019-2020 school year. We hope that you will join us on Tuesday, January 15th,for our Course Selection Open House Night from 5:30-7:30. We will have a presentation ready for you that will highlight the course selection process. This presentation will also be posted online for anyone that may be unable to attend our evening event. We will also have an electives fair set up in the gyms. This will allow you and your child time to ask questions and gather information about our many course offerings. We are hoping this will help better prepare students to make meaningful choices for the next school year.
In preparation for course selection, we do have several activities lined up for students to complete during their Hawk’s Nest. These will all be accessible in schoology. Students will begin by completing an interest inventory test. The purpose of this test is to help students explore different occupations that match their interests. Our current 6th and 7th grade students will receive their course selection sheets on Monday, January 14th during Hawk’s Nest. They will also have two videos they will watch that will be posted online as well. These sheets will be due back to their Social Studies teachers by Friday, January 18th. Counselors will be visiting with students through their Social Studies classes January 28th and 29th to answer any questions they may have and to help them enter their course requests into skyward. If during our visits with students they decide they want to make changes to what they initially turned in, they will have the opportunity to do so.
Our current 8th graders have an exciting month! We have a rising 9th grade parent night on Thursday, January 10th from 7-8pm at the Klein Oak Auditorium. In addition, students will be touring their future high school campus-Klein Oak or Klein Cain-on Friday, January 18th. The 9th grade counselors will be visiting with students on our campus through their Social Studies classes on Wednesday, January 30th. During this time, they will be able to ask questions and will complete a course selection sheet. During the month of January in Hawk’s Nest, they will also have additional activities to complete that will help them to understand the different pathways and endorsements that are offered in high school.
We are excited and know that this can also be a very stressful time for students and parents. The counselors are here to assist you and answer any questions you may have. We will also be available during lunches in the cafeteria the week of January 14th through the 18th to help students navigate through this process. The deadline to make any changes to course requests is Friday, May 24th.
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
School offices do not open until 8:00 a.m. Students are not to arrive on campus prior to 8:00 a.m. unless attending a pre-arranged event with teacher supervision (i.e., practice, tutorials, morning detention).
Reminder: Please refrain from early dismissals after 3:40pm (unless an emergency), as this creates issues for carpool. Safety is our first priority.
Students are to leave or be picked up from campus by 4:05 p.m. unless attending an activity supervised by an adult. When it becomes a frequent recurrent to arrive early and/or stay late, parents will be contacted to remedy the situation. After repeated attempts in working with the parents and if the school administration feels a student is unsafe due to early arrival/late departure from campus, principals will seek other means to remedy the situation
