Ravine Drive Elementary School
November 2020
November Highlights
A Note from the Principal:
As we enter the month of November, I would like to express how thankful the staff of Ravine Drive is for the support we have received from all of our families these past two months. As we work through the challenges that are unique to this school year, we appreciate all that you are doing to help cultivate an environment for our students where they can continue to learn and grow academically, socially and emotionally - whether they are learning in-person or virtually.
Throughout this month, our students will be asked to think about what it means to be thankful..... and how they can show their thanks. We invite you to work with your children as they pause and reflect on a person or experience for which they are thankful; and if possible, reach out to someone to express their thanks.
One way that you may want to express your thanks is if your child currently has or had an educator who made a difference in his/her learning. If so, please take the time to fill out the nomination form for the Governor's Educator of the Year Program. More information can be found below.
In addition, to giving thanks, November is also full of many events on our school calendar. Please make sure to double check the dates below - especially as they apply to Early Dismissals, School Closings and a Virtual Only Day.
Please be sure to reference Dr. Majka's Letter to the Community from October 30th for the most recent updates to the district's instructional school plan.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact our main office at 732-705-5800.
With Much Thanks,
Jessie Zitarosa
Interim Principal

Ravine Drive 1st Annual Scarecrow Contest
After careful judging by a committee, a Winner and an Honorable Mention were determined for each grade level. Ms. Arey then had the winning scarecrow "come alive" via a special art lesson for the student's entire class.
Due to the inclement weather, the scarecrows are on display inside the building so that all the children and staff may enjoy them! Thank you to everyone for making this such a fun project!!!!!!!
Be sure to click the link for a slideshow presentation of the winning scarecrows.
Nurse Lorenzo's Tips for Good Health
If you have any questions, you can reach her by phone at 732-705-5830 or email her at klorenzo@marsd.org.
Tips for Staying Healthy:
Dress warmly. The cold weather is here, make sure your child is prepared with the appropriate coat. A hat and gloves/mittens are also very helpful to stay warm.
Remember that colds and viruses are caused by the spread of germs. Good handwashing with soap (for at least 20 seconds) is our best defense to stop the spread of germs. Try singing the entire happy birthday song twice while washing your hands to ensure you washed your hands for at least 20 seconds.
Wash and dry your child’s cloth masks everyday and when visibly soiled or damp.
Please fill out Crisis Go every morning and remember if your child is exhibiting any of the symptoms listed keep him/her home. If you have any questions you can always reach your school nurse at 732-705-5830.
With the holidays approaching, make sure to get up and get out! Go for a walk with your family or friends to find your favorite leaves or toss around the football! It is so important to keep our bodies moving and active even during the colder months.
