National Certification
After completing a Master's Degree in Counseling Education, additional training and experience was completed to achieve National Board Certification for Counselors.
Emotions Map
Emotion maps help students to explore complex feelings that are difficult to express.
Classroom Lessons
This banner was made by students after a series of lessons were given on community and responsibility. Students identified the school custodian and made links to his work around the school. To show appreciation they made a birthday banner for him.
Lunch Bunch
I provide support during lunch time for students in a variety of topics.
"Discussion Table"
This is an example of a group activity using bibliotherapy. A physical copy of the story provides a basis for students to express themselves by writing out responses.
Visual Aids
Visual aids can be really helpful for students. This particular handout assists in communicating. Other handouts include coping strategies, social stories, and behavior charts. This is one of many resources that can be used with students, teachers, and families.
Professional Summary
I have a Master’s degree in Counseling Education and I am a National Certified Counselor. Currently, I am the counselor at Frank Porter Graham Elementary School. While working for the Chapel Hill Carrboro School System I have had the privilege of serving on the district Equity Team and co-chairing both the RTI and Equity teams at FPG. I have also served as an active member on the PBIS and Crisis teams. Ongoing communication and collaboration with staff has allowed me to deliver counseling services school wide while also overseeing state testing mandates. I have over seven years of counseling experience including: cognitive behavior therapy, play therapy, and crisis counseling. I collaborated in writing a grant on primary prevention of sexual violence that was funded by the Center for Disease Control, and developed an anti-oppression curriculum as a part of that work. I have supervised a number of staff and volunteers as part of my role with the Orange County Rape Crisis Center and have had the opportunity to train other professionals in how to support survivors of sexual abuse.
