Student-Led Conferences
Thank you to everyone who came out to our student-led conferences last week. We had a great turnout in our classroom and it was good to see you again. Your children were very proud to share their projects and learning activities with you.
Swimming Lessons
Our swimming lessons run from Monday, May 4th through Tuesday, May 12th. Please make sure your child has a swimsuit and towel at school every day during this time. Students are welcome to leave their suits and towels at school and we will hang them to dry overnight.
Special Presentations
We have had the opportunity to have Christa from Red Deer's Central Alberta Refugee Effort (C.A.R.E.) come into our school throughout the year to speak to the Grade 3 classes about global cultural traditions and immigrant experiences. This is a wonderful extension of our social studies curriculum and we have learned so much from her and the special guests she has brought with her.
April 30th Presentation
Christa talked to us about spring celebrations and traditions in different countries around the world.
Designing and Building
We learned about the kite festivals in countries like Pakistan and then created our own kites from materials we found in the classroom.
Testing
We tested out our designs in the classroom and made some modifications before going outside to try out our kites in the spring breeze.
May Learning Activities
This month we are moving into some of our final curricular units in Grade 3. We are set to begin a science unit on animal life cycles, and we will focus on natural resources and the environment in social studies. In math we'll keep working on our skills with number operations and patterns, and dig into data analysis a little more. Students are doing novel studies in small guided reading groups, and we are learning how to improve our writing through the use of descriptive word choice. May is sure to be another busy month for us!
Upcoming Dates
Don't forget to check our classroom calendar for upcoming dates.
