Message from the Principal
Dear Families and Students,
I am sharing with you information regarding school opening for the 2020-2021 school year. The faculty and staff of Upper Adams Middle School are very excited to see our students! Despite the abrupt school closure to end our 2019-2020 school year, there were many bright spots along with lessons learned that will carry through to this year. We are dedicated to supporting the academic growth of our students along with meeting their social and emotional needs. We know 2020-2021 will be a great year! For any students who were unable to participate in our Spring “Move Up Day”, a link to the virtual tour video is provided. You can also access the same video on the Upper Adams Middle School website. https://www.upperadams.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=2949
I would like to thank you for your patience as we worked through developing our health and safety plans, including the opening of our schools.
There will be more specific information shared with you in the near future regarding schedules. Schedules will be sent via email. Supply lists specific to both 7th and 8th grade were sent via Smore. If you did not receive a supplies list it can be found on the Middle School website. If you have any questions regarding the information being shared, please contact the middle school office at 717-677-7191 ext 2419.
I am looking forward to seeing you soon!
Mr. Brewer
Hybrid Schedule
Students will attend on alternating days based upon their last name (as listed in PowerSchool). Friday will be a full remote day for all students. All students should bring their district assigned device with them to school on their first in-person meeting. This will be extremely important in the process of re-imaging student computers.
DAY A
Student's with their last name beginning with A-L will attend in person on Wednesday August 26, 2020 and will continue to meet in person every Monday and Wednesday. They will participate in remote learning on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. These days will remain consistent and will not change.
DAY B
Student's with their last name beginning with M-Z will attend in person on Thursday August 27, 2020 and will continue to meet in person every Tuesday and Thursday. They will participate in remote learning on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. These days will also remain consistent and will not change.
Teachers will provide students with engaging learning activities on their remote learning days. All assignments must be completed by 11:59 PM on the remote learning day. It will be important for students to establish a routine that supports learning.
Classroom Expectations
Students will be required to wear face-coverings (mask or shield) on the bus and during the school day.Mask breaks will be provided during the school day when appropriate. A mask or shield can be provided to students if needed. If your child has a medical condition preventing the use of a mask, please contact the Biglerville High School office to schedule a meeting regarding a possible 504 accommodations plan.
Health and Safety
Our maintenance department is currently run by The Aramark Corporation. Aramark provides food service and facility services to hospitals, universities, school districts, stadiums, and other businesses around the world. They are a large company and have access to the most up to date staff training, cleaning procedures, products, and equipment.
Each of our buildings will be cleaned throughout the day while the students are in the building and once they are dismissed. High touch areas such as doorknobs, bathrooms, light switches, handrails, etc will be cleaned throughout each day while the building is occupied.
In addition, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, we replaced all of our HVAC units at the secondary campus. This was a scheduled project that happened at the perfect time! All of our air units are brand new. Our units will run at the maximum air exchange giving us the best indoor air quality.
