Cooper Mountain Newsletter
January 18, 2018
Dear Cooper Mountain Families,
Part of Cooper Mountain's mission is to instill a sense of personal pride in every student while still maintaining a sense of community. At our Friday Spirit Assemblies, we recognize and honor individual students who have demonstrated evidence of our monthly theme, as well as those who continue to follow our school rules and have received Cougar Compliments. The students stand in the assembly, and we honor them with a Cougar Clap.
Once a month we also honor the class with the highest attendance (the fewest absences). Attendance is one of the highest indicators of learning and future success, and our goal is at least 90% for each and every child. This includes both excused and not excused absences because any absence means missed instruction. As a school community, we can improve our attendance and our tardies, so we will continue to encourage you and your student to be here as much as possible! Today was day 79 of the school year, so if your child has missed 8 or more school days, we hope he or she doesn't have to miss any more! We know that illness means you have to stay home, so I certainly hope your child remains healthy until June.
Every day is filled with learning academics, but also learning about working with others, learning about reliability and responsibility, and learning about the "job" of being a student. Thank you for getting your child to school each day- he or she is the winner!

UPCOMING CONFERENCES
We will use the same online scheduling method to schedule conferences for your child. Please look for an announcement from me regarding when those appointment slots will be open. I will notify you when the appointments are ready for you - probably on or before February 8th.
SAFETY REMINDER:
Parents, please do not let your students out of your car in the front of the school. Our drop off area is only in the designated area in the north parking lot, where they don't have to cross the parking lot by themselves. Of course you are welcome to park your car in a legal parking spot (not handicapped unless you have the permit displayed) and escort your child across the front crosswalk. Please honor our community members who need the handicapped spots; it's against the law to park in them without a permit.
Our buses are on a very tight schedule and when cars block the bus lane at the entrance to our parking lot at 170th, dozens of our students get home late. Not only is our school impacted, but so are the middle school routes that follow us. PLEASE relinquish the right of way to our school bus when making a turn into the parking lot.
Kindergarten Registration begins in February. Please remind your friends and neighbors to call our office (503 356-2070) in order to receive a registration packet in the mail.
