The Walden Weekly
School News You Can Use - Oct. 14, 2022
Dear Walden Families,
It was a bit of a rainy week at Walden which only seemed to impact us during lunchtime. But amidst the weather, we still had a wonderful week! The Deerfield Fire Department came for a visit since this week is Fire Prevention Week. Classes were spoken to about creating an exit plan at home so that families are ready in case an evacuation is necessary. Feel free to follow up with your child this weekend to make sure that a fire evacuation plan is discussed.
Thank you to the PTO for their hard work in coordinating the Scholastic Book Fair this week. It was a blast book shopping and enjoying time together after school.
Please see the flyer below regarding the Walden PTO Movie Night Tonight! This looks like an amazing event that you won't want to miss! As a reminder, Movie Night will be in the parking lot of the school and for the safety for everyone, no cars will be allowed in the parking lot. Please use street parking.
Enjoy your weekend!

Walden PAWS
For the first time since 2019, we came together today for a whole school assembly! It was absolutely wonderful being together again as a building! We met together to discuss a new incentive program at Walden. When students are caught following our Walden Way, they can earn a little ticket that we are calling "P.A.W.S". This stands for Positive Actions at Walden School. Our Walden Way teaches students how to be respectful, responsible, and safe in different common areas. Once students earn a PAW, they take their ticket to the office to turn in to a large jar. Once the jar reaches its goal line, we will have a whole school reward! Students will receive a sticker to wear proudly on the days that they earn a PAW. If you see your child come home with one of these stickers, feel free to praise their efforts since they were caught following our Walden expectations. We are excited about this new initiative at Walden!
K-2 SEL Survey
In grades 3-8, students take an online survey to reflect on skills related to social-emotional learning and the school environment. To gather feedback from our youngest students, we have created a very short (8-question) survey to administer to Kindergarten through 2nd graders next week. This survey will collect information about Sense of Belonging and Engagement, and the results will help guide our improvement at the school level. Per policy, if you would like your child to opt out of taking the survey, please contact me no later than October 21.
Halloween Reminders (2nd Posting)
- Our all school parade will take place from 2:00-2:25 outdoors (weather permitting). Families are invited to attend!
- Please help your child in following our rule of no group costumes.
- Please do not send costumes that include weapons of any kind or costumes with bloody guts and gore.
- Please do not send costumes that are difficult to change into. Students will NOT wear their costumes to school, but will be changing into them after lunch.
- If you need assistance in providing your child with a Halloween costume, please reach out to Mrs. Strenger.
