December 10, 2021

Good afternoon WPMS. We are so excited that December is here! We have several fun activities planned for students to empower them to reach their academic goals while taking time to enjoy the season. We know this time of year can cause anxiety in some families. Please reach out to us if you are in need of help or if we need to be aware of something in order to help your student through this time.

Caring Active Parents are hosting a holiday staff lunch on Monday, December 20th. Please take a moment to sign up to volunteer or bring an item: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C49A4AE28A7FBC52-wpms2

Please send a water bottle to school with your child. We only have bottle filling stations available.

Enrichment Class: Trimester & Grades

WPMS switched to a trimester system this year for enrichment classes only. We did this in response to student feedback from last year where students took participated in every enrichment class because of our amended schedule due to Covid. Enrichment classes are an opportunity for our middle school students to explore a variety of course offerings including PE, vocal and instrumental music, art, STEM, video production, cooking, child development, and more. Here is what you need to know:
  • Enrichment class grades are posted in Infinite Campus.
  • Enrichments run on a trimester schedule. This allows students up to 6 courses per year.
  • Each student gets two enrichment classes per trimester.
  • The first cycle of enrichment classes ends on November 19th.
  • On November 29th students will receive a NEW printed schedule in the morning. There may be changes to schedules.
  • New enrichment classes begin on Monday, November 29th and end on Friday, March 4th.
  • Third trimester begins March 7, 2022.

We understand that it can get confusing when the traditional school calendar is broken up into quarters and semesters. We found that quarters are too short of a time for an enrichment class and a semester can be too long for most enrichment classes.

Our core classes of English, math, science and social studies are year long classes. You may check your student's progress on the Summit Learning Platform and in progress grades will be posted in Infinite Campus in January.

Please contact your child's teacher if you have questions about their progress in any class.

We appreciate the diligence that our school community has demonstrated with keeping children that are ill at home. However, we know that returning to school can be a challenge. Here are a few tips to help support your child:

  • Help your child set small goals in making up missed work.
  • Connect with your child's mentor teacher. Email works great and they can help your child make a plan to get caught up.
  • Attend after school Academic Assistance on Tuesday & Thursday in the WPMS library.
  • Reach out to our school counselors if additional support is needed.

Be mindful of doing the at-home symptom screener before coming to school and any student with the following symptoms(s) need to stay home:

  • A fever 100 degrees or higher. A student should not come back to school until the temperature is normal for 24 hours WITHOUT medication. Please DO NOT give any Tylenol, Ibuprofen or any cold medicine before sending your child to school.
