C. Social Luncheon. We will have our final social luncheon on either May 16th or 17th. I am still confirming times with our restaurant. Great sandwiches from the Teriyaki Grill.
D. FAC. We will meet on the 14th. Please discuss FAC items that your want brought with your PLC rep.
E. End of the Year Events Letter. Thank you for passing out the End of the Year Events Letter to students during 6th period on Friday. The letter will also be sent electronically to parents, but contact Derrick Almero if you did not receive enough copies for your 6th period 8th graders.
F. ASB Officer Elections. We have 5 current 7th grade Tritons who have turned in a petition to run for ASB Office for the 2019-2020 school year. Thank you to everyone who took the time to sign petitions and conversed with each student as they asked for your signature. Our candidates for each office are as follows:
- President - Mikhaela Hayden & Maya Muchison
- Treasurer - Hailey Devera
- Spirit Master - Cassandra Garcia & Brooklyn Warner
Each student will be announcing their candidacy on the video morning announcements on Monday and Tuesday. They will be allowed to campaign during the week of May 6-10. They will be allowed to hang posters and flyers around campus, but they are not allowed to post anything inside classrooms. Speeches will be aired during TSP the following week, followed by student voting and confirmation interviews.
G. 8th Grade Awards Ceremony. The award ceremony is on May 15th from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please nominate two top Tritons per department and submit names on this form by this Wednesday, May 1. In efforts to spread the love, you may refer to this spreadsheet with all submissions.
Please keep in mind that it means a lot to the students when their nominating teacher presents the award.
H. Dress Code Discussion. We will have our final discussion on this topic at our last faculty meeting of the year on May 17th. Come with solutions. I attached a picture below. We will need to discuss issues of clarity around what exactly is a violation.
I. Common Syllabus and Yubbler. In the spirit of collegiality and creating equitable practices, please make sure you use these last few PLC meetings to focus on creating those shared practices and beliefs. The syllabus is due May 31st. Let me know if you need support at one of your PLC meetings. Also, I want to us to consider Yubbler for a fundraiser. It will require our departments to have similar beliefs about material necessary for their classes. This can be a tremendous opportunity for us!
J. LCAP District Meeting. I sent a mass email about this opportunity. I hope you will consider attending the LCAP meeting on May 8th. Your voice is important.
K. Master Schedule and Calendar. We are getting closer and closer to our next iteration of the master schedule. We will get this out in the next week or two. Our goal is to have the master schedule and master calendar for next year done before Memorial Weekend.
Let's have a great ending to the school year. As always, let me know of your concerns, questions and/or suggestions. Go Tritons!
A Message from our Assistant Principals!
We are working on implementing Restorative Practice (RP) strategies to our school policies and practices next year. If you want to familiarize yourself with the practice, please check out this short video. For more detailed information, please see this link for what it is considered to be the defining organization for this practice. I want to be clear about this one point: Students will still receive disciplinary action according to their behavior and school guidelines. However, the key to RP is what we do next to make sure the student learns from this behavior and how they return to the classroom with a new perspective and a sense of responsibility to the community. It is about teaching on the importance of relationships and it should be pro-active. We will be developing a series of professional development opportunities around this topic. Thank you to the culture and climate team for helping out!
Safety Tip of the Week: Have a hard copy of your attendance ready at all times—this will help in the event of an evacuation.
We came across these awesome opportunities from Sea World and Disneyland. You might want to check them out!
