MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
Congratulations to Coach Robert Cimmino for his induction into the Westchester Sports Hall of Fame! He has spent his career providing the absolute best coaching possible for our basketball players, and he deserves every recognition. Coach Cimmino is not only a coach, but he is also an educator with the District and encourages his students and players to strive for academic excellence. His stellar coaching record, including eight New York State championships, is a testament to his work with our student athletes and just another example of some of the great things that happen in Mount Vernon.
Last week, we had an automotive press conference with Ford to announce the expansion of our Automotive Career Exploration program. The program has been expanded to Rebecca Turner Academy, increasing the number of opportunities for Mount Vernon students. Having the chance to work with gas and electric-powered vehicles will prepare these students well for trade school, college and a career in the automotive industry.
Thank you to Ndaba Mandela for the visit to our schools. The insight provided to our students was extremely valuable and inspirational. We are proud to have a school named after your grandfather and happy to see that you have continued his great work.
I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving break! Enjoy the time connecting with your families and friends. There is so much to be thankful for this year, and I know that the coming year will give us much to be thankful for as well. Spend some time this weekend thinking about what you are thankful for. I am thankful for our scholars, their families and the amazing educators who have spent so much time and effort teaching them.
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
