Panther Post
April 30th - May 6th
Hello Lopez Families,
The Lopez Bands have had a great couple of days at U.I.L. Concert & Sight Reading contest recently. Our Symphonic Band received straight first divisions from all six judges! Also, Honors Band went and achieved the same awards from all six judges as well! This makes 10 years in a row that Honors Band has received straight first divisions from judges at the U.I.L. contest, and both bands have earned the coveted “Sweepstakes” all 10 years. They are different judges every year, so this was an extremely proud moment for us! (See top picture below)
We would love to invite you to see the Honors Band perform their UIL program of music! They are one of 16 bands/orchestras in the whole San Antonio area that have been invited to perform at the state of the art Tobin Center this year! Lopez Honors band performs on Monday, May 15th, and one of the reasons they accepted our application was because of our incredible Lopez community, so we are hoping to get as many as possible to come out to the Tobin Center on Monday, May 15 at 6:00pm!!!
Lopez Drama is proud to announce we are District Champions! Our talented team competed this past weekend at the NEISD Spring Theatre & Debate contest and won 1st place overall team sweepstakes with 267 points compared to the second place team of 190. Lopez won an incredible array of individual performer awards as well: 32 Outstanding Performer plaques, 20 Blue ribbons, 43 Red ribbons and 14 White ribbons! Our Panthers acted like champions and won it all! Congrats to Lopez debate on their district championship as well! Lopez Debate and Theatre will be presented with the overall debate and theatre championship cup in May! Thanks to our amazing faculty and staff for their support of our team, we couldn’t have done it without you! (Picture below)
I wanted to bring to your attention ALL the tips given at Oaks Crossing Restaurant and Bar from April 1st- June 30th will be donated to Lopez Middle School! In the past we have done a different organization per month and that usually averaged around $1000.00. So this donation should be quite large! We have great partners in the community.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli

Help With Homework? We're at Your Assistance!
PARENTS OF 6TH GRADE STUDENTS
All 6th grade students are required to have Meningococcal and TdaP vaccines before entering 7th grade. As of April 3, over 200 of our 6th graders do not have these immunizations in our records. You may check Parent Portal or call us at 356-5003 if you are unsure if your student is missing these shots. It is very important to bring in your updated shot records to us in the clinic. You may scan/email the record or fax the record. Fax #210-481-4073. Email krackl@neisd.net
IMMUNIZATION CLINIC
On April 25 at Blossom Athletic Center, HEB and SAMHD will partner together to give immunizations to NEISD students. This will take place at the NEISD Career Expo. It’s a great opportunity to view all of NEISD’s special programs, as well as get your 6th grade child’s immunizations. Please bring your child’s immunization record with you to this event. A flyer with more details is in this newsletter. Don’t forget to send the updated record to us in the Lopez clinic!
PICK UP ALL MEDICATIONS
All student medications should be picked up by June 1. This includes all inhalers, Epipens, bottles of Advil, Tylenol, Benadryl, keychain medications, and any over the counter drugs. These medicines will be disposed of if not picked up, as the school won’t be air-conditioned when closed over the summer. If you cannot pick up medication by June 1, please call the school nurse at 210-356-5003 to make other arrangements.
Update Physician Orders
Orders for medications, including inhalers, Epipens, insulin, and all oral medications, should be updated over the summer. Medication forms are being mailed out to all students who currently have medicine in the clinic. Please schedule appointments over the summer so that you will not run out of time to have physicians to complete these medication requests. These forms are also available for downloading at http://www.neisd.net.

Service Hours
Lopez families,
Lopez Panthers should be tracking their service hours. The hours should be tracked in their Leader in Me binder on the service hour log page. They may also track their hours for the PVSA awards website. This consists of time they spend in any type of volunteer role - at school or on their own. This will help them reach their personal goal and will help Lopez complete their school-wide important goal of 10,000 service hours this year.
Instructions on how to enter your service hours can be found at: https://snapguide.com/guides/log-presidents-volunteer-service-award-hours/.
The site for actually putting in your hours is: http://presidentialserviceawards.gov.
Send us a picture of your child in his/her service role and we will display it on a celebrations wall! mvolz@neisd.net or ftobac@neisd.net
We can't wait to see the great ways our Lopez Panthers Serve!

Jon's Run
Jon Carl Stephenson died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) on April 25, 2002, and is the inspiration for this benefit run. Although this event has Jon’s name, it honors all children whose lives ended too soon from any cause. Jon’s Run provides a time and place where families don’t have to be alone in their grief. Our Memorial Balloon Release is a beautiful tradition that offers healing and hope for families as they remember their children. The comfort and support they receive from being surrounded by others who have experienced a similar loss is a very important part of this event. Your donation and participation in Jon’s Run will help support families struggling with the loss of a child as well as help fund SIDS research and prevention.
The Jon’s Run organization thanks all those who have participated/donated for the last 15 years, and all those who continue to support this worthy cause. For more information, please visit our website, www.jonsrun.com.

Box Tops
Dear Lopez Families,
We are quickly nearing the end of the 2016-2017 school year! As we ready ourselves for summer break, it’s a great time to start an envelope in order to collect those Box Tops over the summer!! My name is Melanie Striffler and I’m excited to once again be our school’s Box Tops for Education™ Coordinator for next year.
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school.
Last school year, we earned $200 for our school from Box Tops, and used the money to clean and refurbish our mascot, Prowler. This next school year, our goal is to earn $500.
For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to BTFE.com. Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons and bonus offers.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m here to help make our school’s Box Tops for Education™ program a huge success this year.
Thanks for your help!
