Grouping Strategies and Cohort Design with Blended Learning
Learning Target:
- I can connect my classroom layout and my current instructional practices to my school's blended learning design model.
Teacher Led Activity--Cohort Design and Grouping
Directions for Cohort Design and Grouping of Students:
- Look at SIHS' blended learning design model (linked below) to answer the following questions:
- How many groups are in my blended learning model? (look at slide 8 on the Cohort 4 link below)
- When reflecting on your current instructional practices, do you spend more time in whole group or small group instruction? (look at slide 4)
- Think about your physical classroom space and set up. How will you move desks? Where could you lead a teacher group session? When you use devices, where could that station go? Would you need to secure an area near an electrical outlet? What else must you consider when physically creating the design structure in your classroom?
- Now look at the colored dots on your model's design diagram. When considering students in your classroom, who might these dots and the different groups represent?

Proctor's Breakout Session
RtI=Differentiation
You will all be taking on the role of Teacher Cadets in my classroom! As Teacher Cadets, it will be important to understand how to address the needs of all of your students when you finally make it into your own classrooms. In our Teacher Cadet class today, you are learning about differentiation and this new state initiative called RtI.
The topic of differentiation has already been introduced to you. Yesterday, you all took a formative assessment. Based on that assessment data, you were placed into groups.
To find your group, please take your sticky note (labeled with your last name) off the board in the room. On your sticky note, there is a colored dot (pink, orange, or green) and a letter. To find your seats, locate the corresponding colored sheet of paper (table tent) with your letter printed on it. This is where you should sit.
You will be completing differentiated activities in your groups, using various sample classroom lessons.
