Coyote Creek News
November 22nd/2013
It seems hard to believe that the first term is almost over at Coyote Creek and December is right around the corner. With the recent change in temperature, it seems like a good time to review procedures around school closures or delayed openings. School closures are rare, but the following is where you can find information on days where there is "heavy snow" or severe weather.
School Closures
In the event of class cancellations or delayed school openings, the Surrey School District will post information on its website at www.sd36.bc.ca and provide updates to the following radio stations.
CKNW (980 AM)
News 1130 (1130 AM)
CBC Radio (690 AM)
Red-FM (93.1 FM)
Radio India (1600 AM)
Radio Punjab (cable/satellite)
Fairchild Radio (1470 AM)
CHMB (AM 1320)
Class cancellation/delayed opening information may also be broadcast on some local TV station newscasts. Please do not call the radio stations as staffs are very busy receiving updates and preparing newscasts.
Please do not call the schools and district offices. Calling schools and district offices is also impractical since staff members are generally not available to answer telephone calls far in advance of regular school opening time and phone lines typically become congested in any event.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Coyote Creek! The Book Fair will run from Wednesday, Dec. 4th to Monday, Dec. 9th. The book fair will be open at lunch (11:37 to 12:22) and after school until 3:30 for students to purchase books. We hope you will come out to support our school and purchase some books to enjoy! Mrs. Sturn is looking for some parent volunteers to help out at the Book Fair. If you are available to help either during lunch or after school on any of these days, please let Mrs. Sturn know.
Looking for a Hot Lunch Coordinator
PAC has the following volunteer positions still open - Hot Lunch Coordinator (must be available at school most Fridays from 10 to 1230 and requires 2 to 3 hours prep time during the week, must be comfortable using a computer) and a Volunteer Coordinator. If interested please email the PAC at coyotecreekpac36@gmail.com. Both positions can be shared by 2 people.
Pyjama Day and Philippines Fundraiser November 29th
Friday November 29th will be Pyjama Day. Please show your school spirit by wearing your favourite pyjamas. As part of our Grade Seven students Me to We project, they will be selling Hot Chocolate and Cookies to support the people of the Philippines. Order forms will be sent home soon, so please do what you can to support this worthy cause.
First Term Report Cards
Just a reminder that first term Report Cards go home on Monday December 9th. There is an early dismissal day on Thursday December 12th if you wish to meet with your child's teacher and you may book an appointment through our office. However, our teachers are committed to open and regular communication with parents, so as we have stated in the past, you can make an appointment anytime with your child's teacher to discuss their learning or any concerns you may have.
Christmas Concert
Our school staff is busy preparing for our Christmas Concert on the afternoon and evenings of Wednesday December 18th and Thursday December 19th. Look for more information on tickets and when your child will be performing in an upcoming Newsletter.
Coyote Creek jingle Bell Walk
Wednesday December 11, 2013
Our annual jingle Bell walk is all set to go. The walk is very important as it raises community awareness about the shortage of food for some of our families and it allows our students to be involved in a worthwhile cause. Please help to spread the word to your friends and neighbours who do not have children attending Coyote Creek that there will be canvassers in the neighbourhood collecting donations of non-perishable food items. Students in Grade Six have volunteered to collect the food in the neighbourhood. Food items could also be dropped off at Coyote Creek during the week of December 9th - 12th.
