EVAAS Data Review
On February 18 (our workday), we will be holding short (less than 30 minute) conferences with all teachers who currently (or previously) taught NCFE, EOC, or CTE tested courses. In this meeting we will discuss longitudinal growth trends, current projections, and where our opportunities for growth are.
You will meet with the administrator that is assigned to complete your observations. You may sign up here: Sign Ups (Web view)
On that day, please bring your laptop, and be sure you can access EVAAS and your reports within it. If you need help logging in, that will need to be done prior to this date, as we will not have time that day.
If you are not planning to work this workday, you will need to meet individually with your assigned administrator prior to this date to plan an alternate meeting time. All specially scheduled meetings must occur prior to 2/18.
NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Please make certain that all lesson plans are current in OneNote and include, at minimum, Standards, Essential Questions, Learning Outcomes, and WICOR identification.
- Standard numbers, EQ, and Learning Outcomes shall be posted in every classroom, every day.
- We are still seeing instances of students not being marked tardy. Do not allow students into your room late without marking the tardy. Please ensure that habitual tardies are being handled according to school policy.
- The final day to submit correct EVAAS roster verification is January 25.
- Department Chairs, SPT, and committee chairs, we will meet as one large leadership team on February 13 for our mid-year update. All departments, teams, committees, etc. must submit PowerPoint slides outlining progress on your initiatives, accomplishments, work with data/instructional framework, and major events/activities so far in 2018-19. Each leader will (briefly) present to the SLT on 2/13. The presentation will be uploaded into our strategic plan as well as our website, so we can highlight the great things happening here at RHS. Slides are due by 2:30 on 2/6
- REMIND YOUR SENIORS! There are several seniors who have not ordered graduation materials. The required package is $54.95 + tax, but the price will increase in February. Please order as soon as possible. Jostens will not be back at RHS to take orders, so all orders must be done online. See Ms Marriott with any questions or concerns.
- Make sure you are signed up for our Senior Remind to stay up-to-date on “Senior” happenings. Text @rhscats to 81010.

REMIND Service disruption for Verizon Wireless users in the United States
In effect on January 28, 2019.
Due to a new fee imposed by Verizon, Remind can no longer continue providing free text notifications for devices on the Verizon Wireless network. As a result, Verizon Wireless customers who use the free Remind service will not be able to receive or send text messages as of January 28, 2019.
How to keep using Remind
If you have Verizon Wireless as your phone carrier and currently receive Remind messages by text, download the app or turn on email notifications for your account. Or, if your class includes participants who may be affected by the service disruption, ask them to do the same by sharing the following instructions.
Both of these options are free of charge.
On your phone: Turn on smartphone notifications (RECOMMENDED)
Download the free Remind app on the iOS App Store, on Google Play, or at rmd.me/a. If you don’t already have a Remind account, create one using the phone number where you receive
Remind texts. Make sure to enable push notifications from Remind on your phone.
On your computer: Turn on email notifications
Go to Remind.com on any computer. As above, if you don’t already have a Remind account, create one using the phone number where you receive Remind texts. Turn on email notifications for your account so you don’t miss any messages.
CTE News
Mr. K. Brown’s Architectural Drafting class received some cross curricular training from Mrs. Ford this week. The architectural class was working on landscaping for their site plans. Mrs. Ford spoke to the class about the different types of trees and shrubs used in landscaping. She also cautioned the students about placing plants near certain areas of the house due to the debris that is produced. After the brief lesson on plants, Mrs. Ford also talked to the students about educational and career options for Landscape Architect’s and Landscape Engineers. This is a great example of how so many of the CTE classes are related and how our students can better prepare for a future career through CTE.
ELA Word of the Week
irreverent
Lacking proper respect.
The child was wholly irreverent: she stuck out her tongue at the priest and yelled names at her grandparents.
PD OPPORTUNITIES FROM UNCW AND NCCAT
Social Studies Teachers- This Opportunity is for YOU!
Randall Library at UNCW has digitized several collections of primary sources related to the African American struggle for Civil Rights in Southeast North Carolina during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. We seek teachers of 4th grade North Carolina History, 8th grade North Carolina History, and high school American History II to write lesson plans based on these digital sources. As part of the lesson plan writing cohort, teachers will:
- Attend an initial teacher meeting on campus in mid-February, 2019.
- Submit one lesson that utilizes the digitized documents by April 15, 2019.
- Comment on one other cohort members’ lesson plan by April 30, 2019.
- After receiving feedback, submit final lesson plan by May 15, 2019.
Upcoming Professional Development at NCCAT
North Carolina educators have plenty of opportunities throughout the fall to attend the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers. Applicants are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure a spot. Programs are available to North Carolina educators at the Cullowhee and Ocracoke campuses, online and with NCCAT faculty visiting school districts. NCCAT provides food, lodging and programming. Teachers and or their districts are responsible for travel to and from the center and the cost of the substitute teacher. For a complete list of upcoming NCCAT programs, click here.
