Lion's Link Friday Update

February 10, 2023

Thank You to our Community Supporters!

Our school is so lucky to have such great community supporters who provide resources that we would otherwise not have--our Boosters, PTO, Alumni, the Jason Ash Memorial, our area churches, area businesses, Community Betterment, volunteer coaches, and individual community members who contribute to resources such as our Cares account for student needs--they all give their time, effort, and money to help us with projects.

The Little League has been a major supporter when it comes to providing resources for our ball fields. We lease this property from the Village of Tuscumbia, and although we don't pay a fee to lease it, the school pays for the mowing, electricity, phone, and waste removal, as well as upkeep, repairs, and personnel to perform these tasks. We also have an upcoming water line replacement project planned in the near future. However, many of the major improvements to the field over the years have come from our Little League partners in exchange for their use of the fields. This has included many repairs and upgrades to facilities, the scoreboard, fencing, and the fields themselves. You can see pictures of their latest project below. They have worked for the past several years to raise funds to build new dugouts, and they will be ready for spring baseball and softball season! They are including new benches as well as a storage building for team equipment. We appreciate their community supporters who have made this possible as they partner with many of the same organizations we do.

Our school district is so fortunate to have so much community support--thank you to all who work so hard to make sure our students have such great facilities and resources available to them.

Next Year's School Calendar

You can access the 2023-24 school calendar here. One major change for parents will be that we have added some full-day professional development days for teachers on Mondays instead of the half days the last Friday of the month that we have previously had. This is so that we can provide additional training for teachers to address some of the areas in which we recognize we need to improve. Our breaks and beginning and end dates are basically the same, and we have built in enough inclement weather days that we should not have any make-up days for snow.

On Monday, February 6, Honors Research student, Leila Wright, went to Rolla to work in the chemistry lab to prepare her research samples for analysis. She had the opportunity to tour the chemistry labs on the campus and then work with researchers, Anna Chernatynskaya and Lei Xu in analyzing her samples for copper II removal. She is to be featured in the Chemical Engineering Department's newsletter sharing the department's involvement with educational outreach. Incidentally, this is the same lab that Jonah Visser worked in last year while analyzing his samples for dye removal.
