Reopening News

When we consider how to start the new school year, we need to remember that our students have not been to school in over 5 months. When they return, school will not be what they are used to. For this reason, we will ease our students into this school year. We appreciate your patience and cooperation with the following schedule:

August 24, 2020

Grades K-8 - Half of the students will come to school 8:00 -9:30. The other half will come 10:30 - 12:00. The reason for this is to slowly acclimate our students to their new space, their "bubble", organize their supplies, learn new rules and protocols. This will also give them time to experience wearing a mask in school. The time your child attends will be in an additional email early next week.

Preschool and Pre-kindergarten - Meet your teacher! Individual times will be schedule to bring your child to school, see their classroom and meet their teacher. We know how difficult this can be for our little learners. This year may prove to be extra difficult since this is the only time parents will be allowed into the school building.

August 25, 2020

Grades K-8 - Noon dismissal

Preschool and Prekindergarten -First day! There will be prayer, story time, snack, and more. Students will attend 8:00 - 9:30 AM

We are all ready to begin the new year!

Face masks

All students ages 2 and up must wear a face mask to school daily and have an extra mask at school. Masks must be a solid color. Masks are also available through our uniform company, Schoolbelles. Their link is below by uniform code 2020-2021

Please remember masks must be a solid color for ALL students preschool through 8th grade. Please take the time to have your child get used to wearing a mask. While at home, you can make it fun with fun designs, but when school starts please remember they must be a solid color.

E-Learning option- Divine Providence Virtual School

Last week you should have received an email that stated due to the number of families choosing e-learning, the school would be responsible for creating a program for our students. THANK YOU to all who have answered the survey regarding your choice for this coming school year. If you have not completed the survey, click here. The survey will close Friday, August 7, 2020. More information about the program will be coming next week.

You have questions? We have answers!

QUESTION: Will there be lunch provided or will need to pack?

ANSWER: Hot lunch will begin on August 31, 2020. Until then, students should bring their lunch from home.

QUESTION: Can I send my kids to school with their own wipes/cleaning spray and paper towels for them to clean their desks with? Their own hand sanitizer?

ANSWER: In our school supply lists, we have requested most of these supplies and the Archdiocese is sending us the remaining supplies needed. While we have the disinfectant for their desk, you are welcome to send your child with a small bottle of hand sanitizer for use at their desk. Please consider your child's age when doing this. Should your child over use their sanitizer it will be taken away.

QUESTION: What services will you provide kids with learning disabilities?

ANSWER: If a child has a learning disability, then they should have a Service plan in their file. These plans will be accommodated as much as possible.

QUESTION: Will masks be required during PE?

ANSWER: As much as possible our students will be going outside for P.E. and staying socially distanced. For this reason, students will be able to remove their masks.

QUESTION: What is your plan for cleaning and sanitizing the school every night?

ANSWER: During the school day, the school will constantly be cleaned as contracted with a cleaning company. Specifically they will pay attention to bathrooms and common touch points. At night the school will throughly cleaned.

QUESTION: If a member of the household travels out of state to work he or she is required to Quarantine for 2 weeks. Is the child allowed to go to school?

ANSWER: The child would not need to quarantine unless the parent has been in contact with some who has tested positive for COVID-19.

ANSWER: It may be requested a child showing symptoms be test, but the school will not do any COVID-19 testing. Every morning when students and staff come to school they will have "MATH" M - Mask on A - Ask questions "how are you feeling?" " Do you have a cough?" T - Temperature check, automatically sent home if they have a fever greater than 100.4 degrees Farenhite, and H - Hand sanitizer

QUESTION:If someone in my child's cohort gets sick with covid will my other child's cohort quarantine also because of exposure?

I believe I read that two positive cases in a cohort results in the cohort shutting down. What about sibling's classes? What about classes that share a teacher?

ANSWER: Only a class that has a positive diagnosis confirmed with testing will be quarantined. The student's siblings will need to quarantine, but not their class unless the sibling is diagnosed positive for COVID-19. The Archdiocese will be contacted if there is a positive diagnosis. Since shared teachers will be wearing a mask and are at a minimum 6 feet away, this will be handled on a case by case basis. Decision to be made by the Archdiocese.

QUESTION: How many positive cases will it take to return to e-learning.

ANSWER: The Archdiocese will determine if a school needs to close.

QUESTION: In addition to standard spray and wipe, have any atomizer/mister/fogger machines been considered for applying disinfectant to surfaces in the school?

ANSWER: The parish does have a backpack fogger and will be used as needed.

QUESTION: How will the ARC and AT programs be maintained with each grade kept together in one classroom?

ANSWER: Many of us were taught in this fashion. While one group is receiving instruction, the other group can be practicing what they learned, watching a video on their upcoming skill, working on iReady, etc.

QUESTION: To clarify: Are solid-colored gaiters acceptable masks for students?

ANSWER: Yes

QUESTION: Are the full days back to school 8am-3pm?

ANSWER: Yes, and please makes sure your student is ready to learn by 8:00 AM

QUESTION: How will the school ensure that students that have not been COVID tested are safe to return to school after an absence? Must all students bring in a doctor's note?

ANSWER: A student that is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 and have not been to a doctor to diagnose and test for COVID-19 cannot return to school until the following is met: at least one day fever free without taking any medication, symptoms disappear, and have quarantined for 14 days since the first symptom (which would be the day they were sent home with symptoms.)

QUESTION: My students will be taking the bus to and from school each day. When can I expect a pick up and drop off schedule for them? Also, what are protocols for them when arriving to and from school as it was not outlined in the information provided? Do they get dropped off at separate doors, etc?

ANSWER: Unfortunately since District 92 1/2 will be conducting e-learning, they are not able to provide bus transportation. Once they are back in school, bus transportation should resume.

QUESTION: How will we be sure that families are not traveling? If we know that a family has traveled to a state in need of quarantining, but the family comes to school immediately after returning home, can we inform the school? Will the school enforce the quarantine and ask the students to stay home for that span of time?

ANSWER: In these uncertain times, we need and expect that we are watching out for each other. We expect a family would let us know if they are traveling to a state that requires the 14 day quarantine. If you know of a family that has travelled and has not informed the school, you may let us know. The family will be notified and expected to do the proper quarantine time. For the list of states required to quarantine click here.

QUESTION: If a member of the household gets sick. I am assuming that the child is not allowed in school. How does the transfer to e- learning work?

ANSWER: Work will be sent home just like when a student would be sick. They should check their online platforms for work (Google Classroom or seesaw) They may also be allowed to participate in some online classes from DP.

QUESTION: I would like pictures of the 2nd grade and 5th grade classrooms to view the distancing measures in the classroom and also to show our children what to expect on the first day of school. A video of what the hallways and classrooms will look like would also be helpful. We need to prepare our younger children the best we can.

ANSWER: We totally agree! The school is still in process of getting ready and the supplies needed to mark the school are still in transit. Pictures of what to expect will be sent to families prior to the first day of school.
