Princi-Val Notes
Week 8 (September 17-21) Learning Log Week
Here are some fun things I saw in classrooms this week!
Math Center Rotations
Teacher incentives
I found this little incentive chart for students in Mrs. McGinnis's classroom. Wow, great ideas to help students know you care!
Homework pass, Lunch with the teacher, Teacher chair, Show and Tell, Sit with a friend, Do work with Gel Pens!
Do we all have the need to buy things for our classroom when they are on sale?

I was monitoring the bathroom break when Billy comes out to me in a panic and says "Joey" just found a fish on the floor and put it in the toilet to swim!" I look at him dumbfounded for a few moments and then ask for further clarification. "Excuse me did you just say, Joey just found a fish on the floor... and...put it in the toilet to swim?" ... Billy: "Yep!"
I then ask Joey (after he has scrubbed his hands) about this and he said: "Yes, but I flushed the toilet first so it wouldn't be dirty!"
The fish was plastic not a fallen pet from another room... Which was my first thought. I figured a burial at sea had gone wrong. Really, Really, Wrong!
If you win the first hour of the day, you win the day.
Think about the statement above, "If you win the first hour of the day, you win the day." Do you ever the let the first hour of the day define the outcome of the rest of your day? My answer to this is, "only if it started out bad!" Now, why would I allow this moment or hour to dictate how the entire day is going to be played out? Our students and colleagues are learning from each and every day and I hope they are able to see that one hour doesn't have to ruin my day.
I want you to reflect on a day you would consider a great day at school. Did you win the first hour? How did you set the tone? What things helped you start your day off right?
- For me, I have to start by reflecting on the people I will be interacting with today.
- I try to think through some situations that I'm going to encounter and what I need to prepare for that.
- I look over my calendar and see what the day holds and try to have things prepared in advance.
Mark Batterson said this, "This could be the greatest year of your life, your dream year, but you have to win the day. That's how you win the week, how you win the month, and how you win the year.
