Mar Vista Parent Newsletter
Week of May 10, 2021
Dear Families,
Happy Mother's Day! I hope you are being appreciated for all you do on this special day or are appreciating the moms in your life!
Thank you all for supporting and participating in Pages and PJs and the Read-a-Thon! They both turned out to be big successes! Let's give a big thank you to Lani Almand, Kelli Palandrani and Megan Jacobsmeyer for their hard work putting on both of these events! The Read-a-Thon raised over $10,000 and logged more than 80,000 minutes of reading this year! Woo hoo!!
Here are a few things coming up:
Virtual Open House is coming up on Thursday, May 20. The first half hour (6:00-6:30) will be dedicated to TK-3rd grade and 4th-6th will be during the second half hour (6:30-7:00). Teachers will share the link to their virtual events, so look for that communication.
The Talent Show is set for May 28 and will be an asynchronous virtual event. Link coming soon!
Kinder registration is still open, so if you know of neighborhood families or younger siblings who turn 5 on or before September 1, please have them register asap!
Thank you,
Stephanie Monroe, Principal
Virtual Pages and PJs was a bit hit! Thank you MVPs, Readers and Supporters!
Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update
Hi Families!
Thanks for your help with doing the health symptoms pre-screening before bringing your children to school for in-person learning. This form can be found on the Mar Vista website. This makes the arrival process much quicker for everyone!
Just a reminder that the annual state assessment, referred to as the SBAC, will not need to be administered this year. This will allow teachers more time to focus on teaching the standards. We will continue using our MAP assessment data to monitor progress and to support student needs. The third administration of this assessment for the year will take place this week and into the following week. Please be aware that there may be more asynchronous work for the students during this time when they are not in the group testing.
Thank you to everyone that has sent in pictures for the spirit days! This is one way we are trying to maintain connection and community, so it is appreciated. This week is twin day! Take a picture of you and a friend dressed up in similar outfits (socially distanced) and send in a picture (If you are not able to get together you can send me two separate photos) to be featured on the Mar Vista News.
Many students will be starting unit 8 in our language arts curriculum, Benchmark, this week.

Read what teachers are saying...
They purchased Zearn for us and I have to say it has been a HUGE support for my math program. I also appreciate the $400 classroom funds because I have been purchasing chapter book sets for my class. I also really appreciate Ashley continuing on being treasurer with her full time job. -Miss Risa
