Knightly Update April 18, 2021
Edition Vol 9 Issue 35
Let me start by congratulating all of the young thespians that performed on the stage or helped behind the scenes with the production of OZ. I attended Friday's performance and the kids did a wonderful job. It was a very nice production with a poignant message and I enjoyed it very much. Bravo, Knights.
Please remember that this week the junior class will be taking the AZSCI assessment on Tuesday. If your child is a current junior, please ensure they are to school on time, have a healthy breakfast and get a good night's rest. Due to this test, students in grades 9, 10 and 12 will have a 10:15 late start on Tuesday. Bussing and lunch will be provided to all students on Tuesday. Additional details are included again in this week's update. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
Congratulations to our newly elected Student Government officers. These individuals are listed in our Knights in the Spotlight section. I look forward to working with each of them as we continue to prepare for our transition to the new school. They have a lot of work ahead of them, but I know they will do a good job representing our student body and school community. Congratulations to each of you!
Speaking of the new school, I still have no information to share about student dress requirements or the start and end times. I am waiting for final direction from superintendency. Once I am notified of final decisions, I will share them with all of you and our new families. I appreciate your understanding.
Finally, I want to remind everyone that masks are required to be worn at all ACP and CUSD functions. As you are aware, Executive Order 2020-51 requires that masks be worn at all district and charter schools throughout Arizona. I certainly never imagined having to enforce masks as an administrator, but circumstances require me and my administrative team to do just that. If you choose to attend a school event, whether during the day, afternoon or evening, inside or outside, you must wear a mask. This includes not just ACP but any other school that our kids are participating. I realize everyone has their own opinions, but I respectfully ask that you follow the guidelines that school administrative teams throughout Arizona must enforce and not make situations tense or uncomfortable for all who are attending. As a school community, we have received high praise as to how our students, teachers, coaches/sponsors, parents, and fans have followed required guidelines and I ask that we continue to show that we are a uKNIGHTed body as we end the year. Thank you for your attention and understanding.
I hope you have a very nice week. As always, please contact me if you have any questions. Go, KNIGHTS!
Rob Bickes
Principal

Important COVID-19 Reminders
Please remember students should not come to school if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, have been diagnosed with COVID-19, are waiting for test results, or have been in close contact (within 6 feet of a person with COVID-19 for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period or had physical contact with a person with COVID-19, you need to stay in quarantine at home for 14 days). Parents need to report this to our nurse, Mrs. Hughes.
Governor Doug Ducey released an Executive Order on March 25, 2021 that rescinds previous Executive Orders. However, it does not rescind Executive Order 2020-51 requiring school districts and charter schools to require face coverings through June 30, 2021. It also does not overturn the Emergency Order from Arizona Department of Health Services AZDHS Emergency Measure 2020-04 that specifically requires school districts to have a face-covering policy in place. Based on these orders, mask-wearing remains a requirement by students, staff, vendors and guests at all CUSD facilities.

A stalwart group of sophomores represented Arizona College Prep's Chess Team this year. They are Kevin Chor, Christian Scott, Andreas Boudreaux, Rish Nayak, Lucas Macaraeg, and Srikar Potharaju.
They started out strong sweeping Chandler HS during their first match up but soon ran aground in back to back losses against Gilbert HS and Basis Chandler. However, this was followed by victories against Perry HS, Notre Dame, & Desert Ridge HS and a single loss to Gilbert Classical Academy.
They finished strong with 4 wins and 3 losses giving the team a berth in the State team tournament, which was on Friday & Saturday. We will let you know how they did in next week's update. Good luck!
