Hello San Altos Families

Although this year has been full of firsts, there are some aspects that remain the same. Picture Day is on Monday and this is one of those traditions that definitely should not disappear. Our school photos are the guideposts for our own journey forward as well as those of our students. Some of the photos remind us of the amazing times and some remind us of the times when we did not fit in, but they still help as we define our identity.

This is one of our goals for the year - to bring to the surface the voices and identities of our students in a way that we can celebrate who they are and what they have to say. One area where we have been thinking deeply about student voice is during AMP weeks when our teachers can collaborate with our Instructional Coach, Mrs. Trautman and myself. During these meetings we are able to look more closely at student work and discuss their individual needs. We have planned activities for the classroom that build on standards and allow students to find success by using and sharing their thinking. All of our work during this collaboration time is focused on empowering our students to recognize their mathematical genius.

It is no easy task to analyze and rethink the way we teach math and other subjects to our students. Just like our school photos, each year we can see how we evolve over time and teaching follows a similar trajectory of change. Next time you see your child’s teacher, give them a fist bump or a wave and let them know they are doing great. Ask them about all of the hard work they are doing to think about each and every student and how we can best meet their needs. Let's continue the school and home partnership as we continue to find what works best for each and every student.

Have an amazing week and thank you for your continued partnership.

RSP Teacher - Mrs. Reisch

Hi. My name is Dusty Reisch, I am the RSP teacher at San Altos. This is my first year teaching at San Altos but I have been in the Lemon Grove district for 20 years. What I enjoy most about teaching is connecting with students and seeing them succeed. When I'm not at work I can be found spending time with my family and our puppy, Barley McButterPants. I love being outdoors exercising and watching baseball (my favorite player is my son). I'm excited to be at San Altos and am looking forward to a terrific school year.

Coyote Fist Bump

This week we would like to recognize Alicia Caneday for her continued support behind the scenes. Many times it is the little things that are overlooked, and it is those little things that really matter. Ms. Caneday has been helping out in the office with a variety of different tasks. From labeling mailboxes for teachers to making sure that all students have turned in their permission forms. It is these small details that help us make sure nothing is overlooked. Thank you Ms. Caneday for all of your hard work in supporting our San Altos community and we are sending you a virtual Coyote Fist Bump!

“One of the greatest things you have in life is that no one has the authority to tell you what you want to be. You’re the one who’ll decide what you want to be. Respect yourself and respect the integrity of others as well. The greatest thing you have is your self-image, a positive opinion of yourself. You must never let anyone take it from you.” – Jaime Escalante
