Our Learning Community...

This week our 3rd-5th graders started taking the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments (SBAC) which are part of the state testing system called the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress or CAASPP. The CAASPP System is designed to promote high-quality teaching and learning by giving information to teachers, students, and their families about what students know and can do.

Families can help us by making sure your student:

  • arrives at school on-time (by 7:45 a.m.)

  • gets a good night's sleep

  • eats a healthy breakfast each morning - Remember students can have breakfast before school (7:35 a.m. in the Cafe)

For more information on the CAASPP, please visit these links:

Highlights from the Week...

Jones Dolphins Make a SPLASH!

Big picture
SPLASH is our shared vision for a positive school culture. We explicitly teach expectations and skills throughout the year to set all students up for success. Noticing and naming these expected behaviors is the foundation for positive and proactive support.

As a family, you can reinforce these expectations by using SPLASH language to ask your child about their day, here are a few examples...

  • How did you persevere today?
  • How is your classroom community showing respect to each other? How did you contribute?
  • In what ways do you lead and inspire others? Did someone inspire you? How?

Celebrate Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month With Us

May is Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American Heritage month and we are celebrating and recognizing people from the East, Southeast, South, Central, and West Asian countries and the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Islands. Check out this video full of celebration! Travel from Hawaii to New York City to meet a hula champion living out a childhood dream, a rapper challenging stereotypes, and performers keeping a Tang Dynasty-era tradition alive. Below is a link to The Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center as they bring history, art and culture to you through innovative museum experiences and digital initiatives.
