June
Fire Safety Trailer
Third graders were given the opportunity to visit the Fire Safety Trailer at Harwich Elementary School. They learned about fire safety, and participated in a "smoke house simulation" so they would know what to do in the case of a fire.
Harwich Elementary Grade 3 & 4 Field Day
End of the day
Harwich firefighters sprayed the hot and tired kids with water from the fire truck.
Games
Third and fourth graders played as both teammates and rivals during several different team games.
School Spirit
Kids showed their school spirit by wearing their grade level color--third grade was yellow!
Plimoth Plantation
Cultural Cooking
Third graders learned about the food cooked by the native people throughout history.
Plimoth Plantation
Students were able to ask questions of the 17th Century role players.
Pilgrim Village
Students were able to explore the settlement, and meet many of the different "Pilgrims" that lived in Plimoth at that time.
The Grist Mill
Third graders were able to do a little exploring in Plymouth, on their way to the Grist Mill. The tunnel next to the river that ran the Grist Mill was a big hit!
Wampanoag Homesite
Students were able to see homes and boats (like the mishoon above) that were commonly used by native Wampanoags back in the 1700s.
Exercise the Right to Read
This year's class of third graders raised over $600 during their marathon of reading and walking. All of the fundraisers were recognized with certificates presented to them during our Historical Walk Around Harwich.
Sailing
Due to a generous grant, Harwich Elementary students were invited by The Friends of Pleasant Bay to enjoy some sailing this spring. This experience helped the students further understand the concepts of wind and weather which they learned about during one science unit.
Rigging
Students had to help their instructors rig the boat.
Whaler
Third graders were brought to their sailboats by Whaler!
Sailing
After many rainy, rescheduled dates, all the third graders were able to sail in beautiful weather.
Geography Artist
Students were treated to an artistic Geography lesson where they learned state history as an artist drew the map of Massachusetts, with labels, on the map. He then played a trivia game in which students could volunteer to take a "quiz" in the hopes of winning a prize.
OFF TO FOURTH GRADE!
