Challenge B of Tucson - Rita Ranch
Week 13 Updates
Seminar Updates
Latin - This week the students took a short quick on Latin verb structure. Be sure to look at it. The purpose of this quiz is to highlight for each student what they need to study :)
Logic - We took a look at Lessons 30 and 31 in class and played Vocabulary Bingo.
Math - This week we worked through a variety of problems as a class. We took a look at Scientific Notation, Symbols of Inclusion using fractions, and the Decimal of a number.
LTW - The students each read their persuasive essay on The Hiding Place. The essays are really coming along and the students are writing so well! The required elements are starting to add up. Students might find the checklist found in the back of the Student Workbook to be very helpful. If they are already using the checklist, it never hurts to check it twice!
Current Events - This week I introduced the Federal Minimum Wage. We discussed possible research ideas. The students paired off into Affirmative and Negative teams to present their research on the minimum driving age.
Science - Each student presented their progress on their science fair project. This week, we conducted a short science project to demonstrate writing out procedures/methods. We discovered that it's not as easy as it seems!
Devotionals
We just finished up the book of James. For the remainder of the school year, we will focus each week on a virtue or character trait. We will look at what God has to say about it and how each seminar either points us or trains us toward it. This week we look at Alertness. We referred to: Mark 14:38, 1 Peter 5:8, Ephesians 6:18, Matthew 24:44, and 1 Thess 5: 2-9.
Latin: We become alter to language connections. Two students made the connection between the Latin word mors/mortis (death) to the words postmortem, mortal, and immortal!
Logic: Logic trains our brains to pay attention!
Math: We must observe small details.
LTW: We are learning to be alert to what we read. We are no longer passive readers.
CE: We are learning about the world we live in. It's not just about us! We are learning to ask: What does God say about about....?
Science: Science trains us in the art of observation...alertness!
Announcements/Reminders
NEXT WEEK is the last time we meet before semester break! We would really like to have a pizza and pie (in honor of Thanksgiving) party next week. I will send out a separate email with details.
Blue book exams will be sent home next week.
Latin skit: Please have your student practice their part. Individual parts are very small and should only take about 5-7 minutes for a run through. Daily would be ideal :)
We have a great group of kids and I have really enjoyed watching their growth this year!
