When is too sick for school?
- Students should stay home if they have a fever without medication or if they have thrown up or have diarrhea.
- Students may return to school following an illness if they have not taken any fever reducing medication for 24 hours, haven't had a fever for 24 hours, or haven't thrown up or had any diarrhea for 24 hours.
Please keep in mind that they are still contagious even if the medication masks the symptoms. This has been a difficult year with the flu, strep-throat, and stomach flu. Please help us keep this under control by keeping sick students at home.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
May the peace of Christ be with you! The health and safety of our students and faculty is a top priority for the Diocese of Orlando. The Office of Catholic Schools has been in contact with local health agencies as well as our public school district partners regarding updated information about the Coronavirus.
As with any contagious illness, parents, students and staff are asked to stay home from work or school to avoid spreading infections, including influenza, to others in the community. People experiencing cough, fever and fatigue, possibly along with diarrhea and vomiting, should contact their physician. Our school administrators have been instructed to strictly adhere to policies already in place regarding children who come to school sick; students will not be allowed to go to class and parents will be called to pick sick children up so they can attend to them at home. With it also being flu and cold season, all of our Catholic school administrators were already instructing students and staff on best practices for preventing transmission of respiratory and other illness:
- Avoid close contact with others who are sick;
- Cover nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing;
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer with a minimum of 60% alcohol content;
- Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth as germs are spread this way;
- Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs; and
- Avoid sharing food and drinks with others.
We are currently investigating alternative continued learning structures in the event that schools are mandated to close for an extended period of time. As updates happen, our school administrators will communicate through email and we will post updates on the Diocesan Office of Schools’ website: https://www.orlandodiocese.org/ministries-offices/schools/ For additional information, visit the Florida Department of Health’s website at http://www.floridahealth.gov or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at https://www.cdc.gov/.
May God bless you this Lenten season,
Henry Fortier
Secretary for Education/Superintendent of Catholic Schools
Stations of the Cross
We will be praying Stations of the Cross in the Church at 2 pm on Fridays during Lent. The Stations (or "Way") of the Cross are a special devotional prayer to help us to recall the tremendous love of Jesus Christ as He suffered and died for our salvation.
Lunch time!
NEW: We are adding a Pulled Chicken Sandwich-BBQ sauce on the side-Steamed Carrots, choice of Fruit Cup or yogurt, choice of Milk, Juice or Water. Fridays are always pizza.
Terra Nova Testing
All elementary schools in the Diocese of Orlando administer standardized achievement testing. We will administer the Terra Nova – Complete Battery achievement test along with the Terra Nova InView Monday, February 24 through Tuesday, March 10. All make-up testing will be completed by Friday, March 13.
Students in grades 2 - 8 will be testing. We test for roughly 2 hours on test days and continue a regular curriculum the remainder of the day. Students are well prepared for these tests.
Please encourage your child to take the test seriously and to do their personal best work on the test. Students should prepare for the test by
- · eating a good breakfast.
- · getting a good night's sleep.
- · remaining positive.
