LS Library News
October 2017
Dear Families,
Thank you for supporting our book fair last month! We were able to purchase over 100 new books from the fair for our school and classroom libraries, not including the generous donations and the additional cash profit from sales. The book fair supports our libraries in a BIG way, so thank you!
Below you'll find some additional information about the library and the resources we offer both students and families!
Happy reading,
Natalie
Thanks for a great book fair!
Checking In about Checking Out Books
Currently, there are
592 books checked out of the library! This is fantastic! I love seeing our readers' faces light up when they get to check out books of their own choosing. :)
If the amount of books coming home is posing a challenge for your family, please know that I completely support any book limits you choose to place. Students use a self-checkout computer, and they are able to see for themselves how many (and which) books they have checked out. They can begin to develop responsibility in returning their books on time and checking to see how many are still out by using this computer in the library during their weekly checkout time, in the morning before settling in, or during lunch recess.
Parent Library Collection
Did you know that we have a small parent library just for you? In the main lobby, outside of Emi's office, you'll find a bookcase with books about Quakers, parenting, and other community interests. Feel free to borrow books from this shelf by filling out a blue checkout form on top of the shelf. You may keep the books as long as you need to read them, and return them to the book return just inside library.
You'll also find more information about the library and our database subscriptions on top of that shelf. If you have any requests (or donations), let me know!

Databases for school & home use
A large part of our library budget is spent on various informational databases that we use in school for research -- and that you and your children may use at home, too. You can access all of our databases directly from the library's website at
lslibrary.cfsnc.org.
If you haven't already, check out this great resource of children's ebooks, read-alongs, and audio books! If you have a public library card, you have access to this collection at
nckids.overdrive.com.
Birthday Books for October!
What better way to celebrate a birthday than to give books?! If your birthday child would like to donate a book to the library for their birthday, look below for some new releases on our wish list!
P.S. You can find our complete wish list at regulatorbookshop.com/wishlist/31. If you purchase from The Regulator Bookshop in Durham, mention that it's for CFS, and you'll get a 20% discount. :)
Thanks for reading!
