Bike Hike

Please remember that this FRIDAY, 5/20 is our Bike Hike. Students need a sack lunch and bottled water and can bring sunscreen, bug spray, etc. as desired. We will be leaving promptly after the awards ceremony. Students can have their bikes dropped off Thursday night or Friday morning.

In the event of rain on Friday, we will NOT be rescheduling for a day next week as events are already planned.

Field Day(s)

As part of their workshop week, a group of high school students have arranged and scheduled the elementary school's field day events for next week. Unlike previous years where field day has taken place all at once, the high school students have worked to spread out the events over Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. Students will likely be spending a great deal of these afternoons outdoors. Please plan accordingly and send your student in comfy clothing, with water bottles, in appropriate shoes to be playing outside, etc.

This will be a great way for the sixth graders to wrap up the school year!

Summer Review

Students are aware that it is in their best interest to continue practicing the skills they acquired this school year. Students are not required to complete any of the below work, as there are no grades or other rewards for doing so other than knowing they will be benefiting their learning. Here are my recommendations for their summer review:

  • Reading: While reading 20 minutes a day is still in students' best interest, I understand that they will be busy. I would recommend that at a minimum students read one book in June, one book in July, and one book in August before school starts.
  • Math: I have put together a math review packet for students. As opposed to doing it all at once, I would suggest students complete one page a week so that they are practicing their math skills over an extended period of time. I have included two documents, the student work pages and an answer key. Students will likely need to complete their work on separate paper and should NOT use a calculator for computations. Should they encounter difficulties while working through the problem sets, students should refer to Khan Academy for assistance.

Thinking about this school year, I feel I need to thank each and every one of you! Thank you for your continued support as I worked with your children throughout the last nine months. My students impacted me in ways that I never imagined were possible. Their kindness and willingness to make personal sacrifices in order to assist others is something rare and beautiful. Their drive to support others and their deep emotional connections with one another demonstrates that all nineteen of these kids are not just good students, but are growing to be great people. I know this is not something the students learned in my classroom alone, and the students' actions continually serve as an example of the big heart the small town of LeRoy truly has.

Whether they are returning to LeRoy schools or are starting a new academic adventure somewhere else, I know each 6P student will be extremely successful next year. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with this group of intelligent, kind, creative, and passionate young men and women. Before the end of the school year I will share my personal email address with the students so that they can continue to communicate with me, should they desire to do so. Although our school year is ending and I am about to embark on a new journey in Texas, I would love to hear how students are doing and would be more than happy to remain a resource for them. Please encourage your students to continue to share their academic and personal successes with me.
