The Horace Mann & Leet Connection
February 26, 2020
Message from Principal King and Director Rouner
Hello Parents,
Introduction from Heidi Komorech
My name is Heidi Komorech, and I am so excited to be next year’s 5th- and 6th-grade teacher at Horace Mann. I love coffee, plants, and Harry Potter books. I have been living in Maryville with my family for over ten years. My husband, Christopher Komorech, is the campus minister at Northwest Wesley Center. Together, we’re raising Kya, 14, and Elijah, 11. We love playing games, camping, and road trips.
I currently teach 6th grade at Nodaway-Holt Elementary School. I love building relationships with students and helping them learn and discover. I particularly love questions--especially if I don’t know the answer-- because they drive us toward deeper learning. I’m looking forward to getting to know the students and families of Horace Mann on April 20th and in the months to come.
May 4-8 Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up and PAC would like to have some volunteers to help plan ways to honor the teachers at Horace Mann and Leet Center. Please contact Sarah Winters if you can help. (909) 519-6036 or swwinters@gmail.com
This planning typically involves planning invitations to share with families to show appreciation, planning a meal and creating a volunteer sign up to contribute a dish, and some decorating. New ideas are always welcome and shared work on this makes the process go easily.

Note from the Library
Please help us remind the children not to peel the barcode labels off of their library books. The barcode allows us to check books back into our system. Without this barcode, we aren't able to track the books which could result in an overdue charge to families.
Donations Appreciated for 3rd/4th Grade Project Based Learning Module
Lunch Menus
Horace Mann does not participate in late starts or early dismissals for weather conditions. However, we do encourage our families to use their best judgment and there is no penalty for children if they arrive late or leave early when weather conditions exist. Safety is the top priority.
Horace Mann Laboratory School will be closed due to inclement weather IF the Maryville Public Schools cancels school before 7:50am. Decisions made in the early morning hours or late evening hours will be given to KNIM and KXCV radio stations.
Notifications are pushed out through Textcaster and Seesaw. We encourage parents to sign up for the Horace Mann Text Caster; you will receive texts regarding HMLS. Sign up at http://my.textcaster.com/ServePopup.aspx?id=1003. Also, be sure to sign up with Seesaw through your child's teacher or contact Mrs. King for assistance.
Extended care (K-6) is available for children that are enrolled in after-school childcare BEARCAT CLUB on days Horace Mann is closed for inclement weather and NWMSU is open. If NWMSU is closed, school and child care are also closed.

Phyllis and Richard Leet Center for Children and Families
At the Leet Center, family relationships and children are our passion! At the heart of our learning together, you will find educators who see children as capable learners. Children learn through investigation, exploration, and communication. Our pre-school environment is a natural home-like atmosphere that is filled with inquiry and joy each day.
The Leet Center is also home to our developing outdoor classroom and we believe that all the learning that happens indoors can also be present in the outdoor spaces. Open-ended materials and carefully cultivated spaces provide a place for collaboration, thinking, and representation of ideas. Our learning community includes educators and university students who are working together to listen and learn with children. Children, educators, and families each play an important role in honoring the intellectual and emotional integrity of children.
