Crossing Guard update
• In South Milwaukee, it is the police department that contracts for crossing guards.
• The SMPD has been working incredibly hard to be sure all crossing guard spots are filled.
• 5th grade cadets are not the same as crossing guards. Our cadet program remains intact.
Please continue to drive and walk carefully. Obey all laws and follow the directions of cadets and staff outside. We have many streets around Lakeview, and we want every student to arrive and leave safely.
Forward Testing Coming
3rd grade: April 8, 9, 10, 12, 15
4th grade: April 2, 3, 4, 8
5th grade: April 15, 17, 18
Note - this does not mean students are testing all day on these dates. They might only test for 40 minutes on each day, but we spread the tests over several days.
3rd and 5th grade students have tests in the areas of English Language Arts and math. 4th grade takes those tests plus science and social studies. More information will be in next week's newsletter, but please be sure your child has a working pair of headphones at school for the test. There is a listening section which requires headphones. All students test on district Chromebooks.

Spring Dance & More PTO Events
Aloha Lakeview Families!
Mark your calendars for Lakeview's Luau dance on Thursday April 11th. The dance is free this year! There will be a photo prop area and food for purchase. The dance starts at 5 p.m. and all children need to be accompanied by an adult the entire time. Looking forward to seeing you then!
Don't forget that we are still collecting shoe donations! Bring gently used shoes to Lakeview and the school earns $0.40/pound. There are boxes by the office. Time for spring cleaning!
Nominations for executive board positions will be open in mid-April. Stay tuned for more information.
We will be having another color run after last year's successful event. It will be on June 7 in the afternoon.
News from our Gifted & Talented Coordinator
Hello Families! Here are some upcoming important dates from Mrs. Cosgrove, Gifted and Talented Coordinator for South Milwaukee:
April 30: The Lakeview Spelling Bee will be held at 9:00 in the Music Room. The top three spellers from each classroom (grades 2-4) will compete in this Spelling Bee.
The Invention Convention is coming soon for 4th graders! Parents/guardians are welcome to come view the projects on Tuesday, May 7th from 1:00-3:00 in the Gym. The students have worked hard on their projects!
It’s not too soon to start thinking about summer enrichment opportunities! Besides enrichment offered through South Milwaukee Schools and the Recreation Department, local universities like UWM and Marquette offer summer programs, as do other organizations like the Urban Ecology Center or Red Oak Young Writers.
For more information about GT happenings and other enrichment events, check out the Gifted and Talented webpage which is linked to Lakeview’s home page. You may also contact Mrs. Jennifer Cosgrove through email: jcosgrove@sdsm.k12.wi.us. Thank you!
