Dress Code Concerns
Please note that our dress code has changed significantly this year and I have included it below. The changes allow us to have more flexibility with our students that are at that awkward stage, or cannot afford new clothes.
Intermediate Dress Code
The student dress code outlines acceptable standards for student dress during the school day and during other school-sponsored activities.
Students will wear attire and groom themselves in a manner that supports a healthy and safe learning environment.
Students will not wear attire that is disruptive to the school environment, that promotes illegal or harmful activities, or that could endanger the health and safety of the of the student or other students, which includes, but is not limited to, that which:
1. Depicts messages lewd, vulgar, obscene, plainly offensive, violent, sexually explicit, or that refers to items that are illegal in general or illegal specifically for underage students.
2. Promotes use of tobacco, drugs, alcohol, or other illegal or harmful products.
3. Contains sexually suggestive messages.
4. Depicts gang affiliation.
5. Causes or is likely to cause a substantial or material disruption to school activities or to the orderly and safe operation of the school or at school-sponsored activities.
6. Contains rude, disrespectful, or discourteous expressions inconsistent with civil discourse and behavior.
The following specific items are not permitted except in individual cases as approved by the principal of the school:
1. Bare feet.
2. Headwear, except as worn for medical reasons or as a legitimate expression of a student’s religious practice and faith.

Behavior Tip of the Week: PBIS and SWE (School Wide Expectations)
Within the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) framework are three tiers.
Tier 1 contains school wide interventions that will address the behaviors of all students. As we kick off our school year, consider Tier 1 supports that may support all learners in your classroom. Tier 1 supports are PROACTIVE instead of REACTIVE and call for a change in mindset.
What is one way I can be proative and implement a Tier 1 support in my classroom? Through the school wide expectations of PRIDE!
Consider reinforcing the school wide expectations with your students throughout the day.
For example, ask the students to be respectful of everyone (reference the R in PRIDE) before you start a group activity where a difference in opinions may occur. Another example may be reminding students to P - Prepare for Success when they strategically plan the materials they need from class to class.
A common language of implementing school wide expectations will prevent problems before they occur.
How have you implemented one proactive strategy in your classroom this year?
Click on the link below and talk about one proactive strategy you have implemented (for a treat in your teacher mail box).

AVID
One Pagers are a great way for students to synthesize information all on one page. Check out Donna Ritter's ELA class example and instructions. As the teacher, you can set any parameters you want for getting the information onto one page. You can even ask students to work silently with a partner!
Get creative with One-Pagers!

Rocco's Corner
Thank you for helping us complete our first Lockdown drill this year. We did a great job!
Some things we learned and need to stress will be shared at the next faculty meeting.
Bus Loop
The last buses are coming earlier and I soon hope to be clearing all of your classes as early as we had last year.
Trivia Question
Email me with your answer after school.
SPED
Case managers are currently working to complete IEP amendments to address the intensive program of instruction for those students who did not pass one or more areas of the STAAR and/or STAAR A. If you are working on deficit skill areas during a specific time (Success, etc.) it would be extremely helpful to provide special education teachers with this information. All IEP amendments must be sent home prior to the end of the 1st six weeks.
Please find a link to the updated case manager list.
