New Interstate System
Having a car in the 1950's was a necessity. More and more people were buying cars, if there are more cars there needs to be more roads. The U.S. government created a highway system which marked the birth of the Interstate System. The Interstate System made it more easy for Americans to travel places in the 1950's. With the new Interstate System it changed the way of American transportation. President Eisenhower is the one who signed the Interstate System Act which authorized the building of a nationwide highway network-41,000 miles of expressways.
Dr. Jonas Salk
Dr. Jonas Salk developed the first successful vaccine against poliomyelitis. Many parents that had young children worried about diseases that their children could get. With this new vaccine that Dr. Jonas Salk created saved American hopes because poliomyelitis was a major disease and was very harmful. The vaccine that Dr. Jonas Salk had developed changed history in the Medical Field by saving thousands of lives from this terrible disease.
