The Teen Advisory Board

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) of the Montclair Public Library is a group of teens who participate in and influence the functioning of the library, especially for teen programming and library materials. Most importantly, TAB is a forum to have your opinions and suggestions heard.

A Note from a YA Librarian

Big image

To my dearest teens:

Last week, I shared the news that after four years, I was leaving Montclair. I hope you all know that this was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. While it breaks my heart to leave you guys, I know that this was something I had to do. I cannot express enough how proud I am of every single one of you members. Your dedication to the group, all your hard work and brilliant ideas--YOU guys are the reason as to why I love my job. It has been an incredible privilege to be your YA Librarian and I hope you all know that I will cherish all the memories we have shared.

Please know that this is not goodbye, more of like see you soon! I wish you all nothing but the absolute best in life and in all of your endeavors.

All my love,

Book Review By Rohan Israni

Home by Toni Morrison

Toni Morrison’s Home probes the nature of home, and how the absence of a nourishing home can impede an individual’s freedom and selfhood. Morrison’s use of magical realism proves to be an extremely useful artistic leverage that tracks the progress of each character on their quest to find home. By blurring the real and the supernatural, Morrison is able to expand the world of each character and incorporate a few distinct symbols that seem to confront reality through their mysterious qualities. The story is about Frank Money, an African American war Veteran and his reluctant journey home. Morrison creates a world in which seemingly supernatural events propel the characters forward and act as a road map to their homes. Frank, Lily, and Cee all find solace in an unexpected place, and in all three cases, the circumstances that push these characters toward their homes are peppered with elements of magical realism. This novel is definitely captivating and will keep the readers glued till the end.

Glass by Anonymous

Can be shattered in a minute,
It's beauty turning into pain,
Losing it's glamour in seconds,
Replaced by it's true nature.
Fragments of itself spread abroad,
Never to be the same again.
Want to pick up the pieces and throw them away
And instead get cut.
But a few can see through the breakage
And find the elegance and strength still within.

Hi, I'm Cletus! I'm about three years old and I have been at the shelter for around 2 years. Although they take great care of me here, I'm more than ready to find a real home. I don't like my cage - I'd much rather be running around in your backyard! Since I'm still young, I still have a lot of puppy energy and I need a strong and experienced owner. But I'm a very smart boy! Just ask one of my human friends about how fast a learner I am! I'll do just about anything for a treat, and if you rub my belly we'll be instant friends! I promise that if you give me enough time and patience, I'll forever be your loyal companion! Although I’m a great dog, I do not get along with other animals. You can come visit me Thursday-Monday 12pm-4pm and Tuesday-Wednesday 12pm-6pm. Hope to see some new faces soon! Like, Follow and Share my Facebook page - Cletus Needs A home.

Happy Birthday TAB Members!
