Social Justice Week - March 28-April 1st

Mark your calendars for Social Justice Week at WVWC, March 28-April 1st! With panel discussions, active service projects, a forum discussion, and awareness, you won't want to miss anything! Stay tuned for a schedule and details!

Dropout Prevention Day - Thursday, April 7th from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Volunteers are needed to assist the WE LEAD Children and Youth team during Dropout Prevention Day. On this day, over 300 eighth grade students will be on campus to learn about their options for higher education. This will include information sessions, panels, and campus tours. If you are interested in helping out, please contact ovies_mn@wvwc.edu.

Garlic Mustard Seed Pull - Saturday, April 9th- Sign up by March 30th!

The Appalachian Experience team will be taking volunteers to Seneca Rocks to eradicate an invasive plant species--garlic mustard seed--from the area. The day will start out with finding and pulling the plants along the trails of Seneca Rocks, and in the afternoon we will go hiking on the Seneca Trail. If you are passionate about being outdoors or just in the mood to help, this would be a great volunteer opportunity for you!


This event is scheduled for Saturday, April 9th from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. Both lunch and transportation will be provided. If you have a meal plan, we ask you email winkie_mp@wvwc.edu with your student I.D. so that your regular meal plan will cover the cost of the bagged lunch. Please include any dietary restrictions. However, if you do not have a meal plan, your lunch will be covered through WE LEAD.

Heavner Cemetery Project - AmeriCorps - Saturday, April 9th at 1:00 PM

Volunteers are needed for a cemetery research project directed by AmeriCorps member, Christina Rieth. Volunteers will analyze the conditions and materials of headstones in the cemetery. The project will last approximately four hours and the rain date is April 10th. Snacks and water will be provided.

Stockert Youth Center Tutoring

Stockert Youth Center needs volunteers to tutor K-12 students. You can earn at least two service hours per week. Hours range from 3:30 to 7:00 pm Monday through Thursday. Subjects include Math from basic, Pre-Algebra, Algebra ll, to Trig; Reading; Spelling; English; Science; History; and Social Studies. Our main subject is Math. Get Up and Get Moving - Rock Cave Elementary - Wednesday, March 23rd from 3:00 - 5:30

Volunteers are needed to help with Get Up and Get Moving, a healthy kids initiative that helps children learn to value active lifestyles. Transportation will be provided, and volunteers will need to meet at the Chapel Oval at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 23rd. Volunteers will return to campus around 5:30 PM.

OXFAM Change Leader

CHANGE is a student leadership program that begins with a week long training in Boston that serves as a crash course into Oxfam's mission to right the wrongs of poverty and injustices. The position of CHANGE leader is a year long commitment that requires the student leader to organize and host three to four Oxfam events during the academic year. CHANGE operates cross-country, so the leader will acquire a network of invaluable resources and

Upward Bound Summer Employment

The Upward Bound Program is looking for sophomore, junior, and senior students for summer employment as residential assistants. Training will begin on June 7th and employment will end on July 21st. Responsibilities include supervising high school students, organizing activities, and role-modeling. Benefits include a salary of $1,900, an expense-paid trip, and leadership training. Mountain Lakes Preservation Alliance - Summer Internship and Volunteering Opportunities

Mountain Lakes Preservation Alliance has a plethora of volunteer/engagement opportunities available to students. We also offer internships. AmeriCorps Summer of Service - Horseshoe Leadership Center

AmeriCorps is looking for volunteers for the coming summer to serve as counselors, lifeguards, food service workers, and in facility upkeep at the Horseshoe Leadership Center's summer camp. Volunteers will be engaged from May 24th to July 30th for training and camp work. Volunteers will receive room and board, a weekly living allowance, and an educational stipend. Interested volunteers are encouraged to apply immediately.
