Want to attend CTE next year or know a student who does?

Our application for next year has gone live! Students who are interested need to apply by Friday, March 10th.


As part of the application process, students (even if they are a current CTE student) must visit the program(s) they are most interested in applying to for next year. There are visit opportunities for students at each of our partner schools as well as current students. If you, or another someone you know would like to visit please feel free to email cteadmissions@ewsd.org to set something up!

The Governor’s Institutes of Vermont creates fun, accelerated learning residencies on college campuses for Vermont teenagers like YOU!

Each Institute is an adventure that focuses on a topic and offers an in-depth experience built around learning, interacting, and sharing. You live on a college campus and have access to all the resources the college provides, including state-of-the-art labs and studios. Each Institute offers a unique, collaborative and hands-on experience bursting with creative learning and boundless fun!

CTE's Career Development Department

The Career Development Department at CTE works with program instructors and students, bringing the outside world into school or taking students to the outside world. Over 450 local employers partner with our programs providing students with a myriad of learning opportunities. From field trips, mock interviews, job shadows, industry tours, guest speakers, career work experiences, and paid internships and apprenticeships, students at the Center for Technology, Essex can take advantage of a wide range of work-based learning possibilities.

Meet CTE's Work-Based Learning Coordinators!

How long have you worked at CTE?

Ms. Knight: This is my 25th year working at CTE! I have been in a few different roles here including the Business Academy instructor, the school Bookkeeper, and now Co-op Coordinator for the past ten years.

Mr. Paterson:: I started working at CTE as a Cooperative Education Coordinator in 2001.


What is your background?

Ms. Knight: I grew up in VT and attended Essex Junction High School before going to college at Fordham University in NYC. I spent my last two years of college at St. Michael’s College where I earned my degree in Accounting. I later went back to school to earn my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education.

Mr. Paterson: I earned an Associates degree in General Business from Champlain College and my Bachelors degree in Business Education from Johnson State College. I received my Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Norwich University.


What are your hobbies?

Ms. Knight: I love musical theater and country music! In my free time I enjoy reading, walking with my daughter and two crazy dogs, and spending time in Florida with my family.

Mr. Paterson: I enjoy biking, hunting, and fishing.


What is your favorite aspect of working at CTE?

Ms. Knight: I love working with students at CTE and helping them explore various career paths for their future. It is very rewarding when students get offers for full-time employment before they even graduate!

Mr. Paterson: Being part of an organization that truly works to connect with students and support their educational goals.


Describe your program in 3-5 words!

Ms. Knight: Industry-based, meaningful, planning for the future

Mr. Paterson: Focused, valued, collaborative, unique
