Point View School
NEWSLETTER - Week 9 - 29 June 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
There are some changes taking place in New Zealand across areas of education policy and practice with the aim of making our education system better able to meet the needs of 21st-century learners.
At Point View, whilst we acknowledge the work being done in all areas, we are particularly focused on those changes around curriculum, progress and achievement. This work of the Ministry of Education sits alongside our introduction of ‘Hero’ and our fresh look at assessment and reporting across the school. If you are interested in reading more about the Ministry’s work, follow this link.
Early next term we will be asking you to participate in a survey. The Point View School Community Survey is one way in which you can let the school and the Board of Trustees know your views. We are always keen to hear from members of our community.
WELCOME TO OUR NEW STUDENTS
Cedric, Florence, Kate, Isla, Lucas, Livia, Ryan and Blake.

BEE FACTS FROM ROOM 29
An average worker bee makes about a half to 1 teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
A bee beats its wings approximately 11,400 times every minute - that’s what makes the buzzing sound!
About 4 million flowers are visited to make 1kg of honey!
Here are some things that you could do to help our bees…
Grow plants in your gardens that bees can collect pollen and nectar from.
Grow a veggie garden, bees love veggies!
Try very hard not to use pesticides in your garden. These can poison our bees.
Remember we can all help our bees by being bee-friendly!!
HOWICK CLUSTER CHESS TOURNAMENT
The Point View School chess team took part in the Chess Power Howick cluster chess tournament which was held at Our Lady Star of the Sea School on Tuesday 15 June. Our team did extremely well, and they were placed 1st overall! Well done to the team for their outstanding achievement!

CULTURAL WEEK 2021 - WEEK 5 TERM 3
For the adults:
We will be celebrating cultural week in week 5 of term 3. Do you have a cultural tradition or perhaps a traditional tale you would like to share with children at lunchtime during week 5? If you would like to help us celebrate cultural week please contact Penny Gibson p.gibson@pointview.school.nz
For the children:
Would you like to perform at the cultural assembly or at a lunchtime during cultural week? Auditions will be held during weeks two and three of term three. The holidays would be a great time to get some friends together and create a performance to celebrate the many cultures we have here at Point View School!
