Can We Make It 2 Weeks?
School Is Hard and Other News
The Week That Will Be
Yes, a possible two week stint would be wonderful! A normal week with TFK, Word Study due, a field trip on Friday and a surprise guest tomorrow! We are extending weather a full week due to the missed days, so no test this week. We will be working on our weather unit to become junior weatherpersons in the coming days.
In reading groups we are working on fantasy books. We are focusing this unit on vocabulary. Each chapter, students are required to write any words they may not know on a sticky note and then look up the word when they are finished reading. When we meet, I ask students to share words, as on their daily work, vocabulary is included in their questions. Ask your child to share some of the words they have learned in their books.

Directions and Details
That is the theme of the remainder of the year. As we hurtle towards our May SOL tests, I am giving fewer and fewer directions for tests and quizzes. The directions are written, but I don't read over them to the students. Why? Come May I can't say a word once they start the test. The "What Does It Mean?" questions or "What should I do?" are unanswerable by me. Most times the details and requirements are right in front of them, but if it is a 3-step problem, the students might not make it past step one. The reason? Directions and Details. We're working on checking our answers and following written directions, so you may see "Directions and Details" on homework assignments from here on out.
STEAM Night on Thursday
The time is officially 5:30 to 7:30 for the used book fair. I will be in the classroom showcasing our science experiments of the year so far from 6:30 to 7:30. It is a fun time for the students to show you what we have been cooking up in science.
