Principal's Message

Here we are at April. This year is going by so quickly! In the last few weeks, we have enjoyed reporting on student progress and connecting with families for student-led conferences. We really enjoy bragging about our students and all the progress they have made so far this year! All of our students have been working so hard on "growing" their brains (as we like to say). Our school has a reading goal, where we would like 75% of our students reading at a proficiency level or higher by the end of the school year. Last month, we completed a school-wide reading assessment to check in on student progress. At that time, we had 63% of our students reading proficiently. We are working hard towards our goal and we fully believe we will achieve it!

After the Easter break, we will only have 11 weeks left of the school year. We want to capitalize on those last 11 weeks and ensure our students reach their fullest potential. At Connaught School, we believe that "Every Day Matters". We are always "Reaching Higher, Growing Stronger".

I want to wish everyone a wonderful Easter break. I hope you and your family are able to stay safe and healthy and that we all get to enjoy some beautiful Spring weather!

Preparing for Level 4

We have seen an increase in cases of Covid in our province, in the last week. The main concern is the B117 variant. School divisions in the southern part of our province have moved to Level 4 for a brief period of time in order to try and minimize the risk to students and staff. We have our Easter Break beginning on Friday April 2nd and we will be sending home technology devices with our students in Grades 4-6, as a precaution only.

At this time, this does not mean that we will be moving to Level 4, we are just wanting to be prepared in the event that there is an increase in cases in our health region over the break. Students will return the devices to school on Monday, April 12th, when we return to school.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call us at the school (306)445-3661.

School Drop off and Pick-up Safety

Families, we need your help with before and after school safety. Our before school drop off and after school pick up is a bit hectic and we are hoping you can help us. Firstly, we are encouraging all of our students to use the cross-walk to ensure students are able to cross safely. We are also asking that families do not park in the crosswalk area. Our students need to be able to use that space to cross the street. We are also working on putting out a student cross walk sign to let families know where students will be walking.

We are also asking that families do not stop in the middle of the street to drop off students. This can be quite dangerous as other drivers cannot see students.

Please do not park in our staff parking lot or pull into the staff parking lot to drop off your children. Our staff parking lot is very small and can get quite congested when staff are trying to arrive in the mornings or leave at the end of the day.

We are also asking students to not walk through the staff parking lot. We are starting to notice that students in the parking lot can cause some extra safety issues. Students should always walk on the sidewalk.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We want our students to always be safe at school.

Grade 6 students and families...

Our Grade 6 students will be moving to the high school next year for Grade 7. After Easter, NBCHS will be connecting with our students to begin the registration and transition process. Stay tuned for more info!

Community Room News and Events…

Our Dream Broker, Antje, has been working very hard behind the scenes this year creating classroom kits around the Arts and Culture. Currently the Grade 5’s and 6’s are working on ‘People’s Cups’. Students are carving their most creative designs into soft clay cups. When carving is complete Antje will ship them back to SILT Studio to be ‘fired’ in a kiln. The students are very excited to see the finished product and be able to drink from it also!

The Grade 5 and 6 class also created fleece Flip blankets and Dream Catchers thanks to Antje. Hats off to Antje for continuing to bring exciting, skill building projects to our students!

Spring Soccer registration is now live online at BYSI.CA. Kidsport and Jumpstart forms are available with Mrs. Humenny for help with costs.

Spring Gymnastics/Parkour/Ninja Warrior – 4 week first-come-first-serve sessions being offered at the Gymnastics Club. Registration forms available with Mrs. Humenny. Spaces will go quickly.

Any questions? Call or text Antje @ 306 480-9875.
