Black History Month Resources
(From Liz)
Google For Education has Applied Digital Skills that has templates and lesson plan ideas to use with students. They have created 7 lesson ideas for Black History Month to "explore the importance of Black history, express your identity, and celebrate the contributions of African Americans throughout history." The link to these lessons can be found here: LINIK
If you would like to try one of these lessons, I am happy to collaborate with you on how to implement them with your students!

Winter Conferences
UPDATE: Please email Sarah to share your plans for conferences (dates, schedule, etc.) You are welcome to adjust dates as needed; please just keep me in the loop.
Buildings schedule conferences during the month of February during 2 evenings (4PM-7PM). Conferences are not mandatory for each student; rather, it is recommended that you connect with families of students who are below benchmark. Conferences are virtual and should be no longer than 15-20 minutes. To be consistent with the other buildings, please plan to hold conferences outside of your instructional day during the week of February 15th. Should you need more time to accommodate families, we will use Tuesday, March 2nd as a day for you to provide asynchronous learning and meet with families who were unable to be scheduled in February.
I will include this information in our Smore tomorrow. Please use the system or structure to schedule conferences as you did last semester. I will communicate with families that conference information will come from teachers and the targeted dates will be during the week of February 15th and on March 2nd, if needed. I will also indicate that conferences are optional for families.
(If you have conflicts on the dates listed, please let me know and identify other dates that you will offer to families)

2020-2021 Staffing Process (Communication from HR)
The 2020-2021 school year created many unusual staffing changes. Many OASD teachers were involuntarily reassigned to another site and/or grade subject or volunteered to move into the OVLC for the 2020-2021 school year. We hired many more limited term non-renewing contracted teachers. As we move into staffing for the 2021-2022 school year, we need to use different processes to assign staff for post pandemic staffing needs. The following information is a basic outline of the process:
January 2021: Those who moved involuntarily to another site, moved voluntarily to OVLC, or have a limited term one year non-renewing contract will be emailed a survey to complete indicating placement preference for the 2021-2022 school year.
February 5, 2021: Any other teacher interested in moving into a new assignment should communicate that desire. If you want to move within your building, you should talk with your administrator. If you want to move to another building, you should speak first with your administrator, and then email Kristen Taylor. You will then be emailed a link to complete the preference survey.
February 10, 2021: Preliminary staffing that defines how many teachers we need and where is completed.
February 19, 2021: Administrators will work as a team to fill staffing needs using teacher preference survey and staffing needs. Teachers who must move due to position elimination will be prioritized over those who request a voluntary change.
March 1, 2021: Changes in placement will be communicated to all teachers who are being reassigned.
March 1- July 31, 2021: After March 1, the District will return to the normal transfer process. We will communicate vacancies as they occur, and all teachers can apply for any open positions as an internal applicant.

Number Corner Preview Videos for February
Number Corner is a critical—and beloved—component of Bridges in Mathematics.
It offers meaningful distributed practice of key skills and concepts and time for genuine questions and student discourse. Planning for Number Corner is particularly important this year, when many Bridges educators and their students face interruptions in learning and unique circumstances for instruction.
Beginning in September 2020, MLC began publishing monthly Number Corner preview videos for Kindergarten through Grade 5. These videos are available from the Resources and Support for 2020–21 page. Starting this month and recurring on the final Monday of each month through April, these videos will be shared here in the BES blog.
Each video is approximately 30 minutes and features an overview of the concepts and ideas for the month and a preview of each workout, as well as practical tips for organization and effective facilitation.
You can watch the February videos by visit the Resources section in the Implementation Blog portion of the Bridges Educator Site when logged in.
