Sixth Grade Band Bulletin
January, 2016
What have we been up to?
We also have twenty-nine sixth grade band members preparing a solo for the very first time. These young musicians will perform at the RMS Solo/Ensemble Festival on February 6th. They will do an outstanding job!
Our Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble members are preparing for their first concert (gig) of the year on February 11th. These two fine jazz ensembles will perform at the Batavia All-City Jazz Festival held at BHS. In addition, our Jazz Ensemble is performing at a Chicago Wolves Game in February!
The sixth grade members of the Symphonic Band will be doing a recording session to "audition" for the prestigious Illinois Superstate Festival this week. GOOD LUCK!! They will make their debut performance next week at the BFAC where they will share a concert with the BHS Wind Symphony and the Palatine Concert Band!
As you can see, we are very busy! This news letter will focus on a few upcoming events. As always, please contact me with questions/concerns.
Sincerely
Rob Buckley

Summer Band Camp Info
Here are the links to the camps we highly recommend:
ISYM: Held on the campus of the University of Illinois (students live in dorms, work with University faculty, and perform at the world famous Krannert Center for Performing Arts.
Music For All: Held on the campus of Ball State University (students live in dorms, work with nation's premier band teachers, and perform at Ball State Fine Arts Center). This is a camp Mr. Ozsvath and friend Mr. Scapilato created. There is a Super Saver and early bird discount to go to this camp (deadlines approaching). Free Transportation to Ball State (Muncie, IN) is available via coach bus.
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp: Held in the Blue Lake Camp in Twin Lakes, MI (students would live in a cabin with 10 other campers and a camp counselor), students would rehearse in outdoor rehearsal spaces and perform in an outdoor amphitheater.
If you feel that your child may not be ready for these camps at this time, not to worry. These camps are available through high school.
ALL students are STRONGLY encouraged to participate in the Encore Camp held right here at RMS .
The Batavia Women's Club scholarship is a great opportunity to bring the cost down. The BWC awards a limited number of monetary awards each year. They do have a detailed application form. That form should be filled out NEATLY by the student and turned in to Mr. Buckley by March 1st. The teachers fill out a portion of each student's application in addition to writing a letter of recommendation. To ensure that all forms are completed by the Women's Club due date, all applications are due by March 1st.
In addition, the Batavia Music Buffs awards $50 scholarships to all students going to camp. There is an application on the Music Buffs website that must be completed by the due date. Find out more information by going to https://www.bataviamusicbuffs.org/scholarship-policies/
For students choosing to attend Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Mr. Heath will be at RMS later in February to listen to students perform for Blue Lake Scholarships. These merit-based scholarships are for the Blue Lake Camp only. Students wishing to audition should plan on playing their scales and either their solo from Solo Festival or their part on Dance of the Tumblers for Mr. Heath. Everybody who plays for Mr. Heath is awarded a scholarship if they choose to attend the Blue Lake Camp.
