Germany
When did they come, why did they come and where did they settle?
The first German immigrants came to Pennsylvania in 1683. About seven million Germans immigrated from 1820 to 2000 in the United States. They came for religious freedom and for a change in their lives. Many Germans went to settle in the Midwest where they farmed or lived in cities. Men worked at trades or did farm work and women took care of the family and did housework. Many Germans went to the Midwest where they farmed or lived in cities.
