FORENSIC SCIENCE CLASSES LEARN ABOUT ARSON
Sargent Steven Wesson and Lieutenant Ben Gleaton with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Prevention Bureau shared different stories with Mr. McGough’s forensic science students.
GA MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION IN-SERVICE CONFERENCE
Our illustrious Fine Arts Chair and Orchestra Teacher John Sweat presented a session about orchestra and guitars performing together.
Guitar and orchestra students performed as a part of the session and then they later performed in the lobby of the Classic Center.
During the session and the lobby performance, we performed the original piece of HHS Alumnus, Tyler Jackson, "Quiet Nights" for solo guitar and string orchestra. This was quite thrilling for all of us and both audiences thoroughly enjoyed Tyler's piece. (A guitar teacher from Gwinett has asked us to arrange "To a Wild Rose" for guitar ensemble and she will buy it from us!)
BROTHER AND SISTER SELECTED TO ALL STATE ORCHESTRA
Eunice Chon (violin, pictured above in the left photo on the far left of the picture) and Peter Chon (cello, pictured above in the right photo on the far right) have been accepted into the All State Orchestra. They will perform at the Classic Center in Athens on March 2, 2019 with other orchestra students from around the state.
ORCHESTRA: LARGE GROUP PERFORMANCE EVALUATION March 12
Our next project is GMEA District XI Large Group Performance Evaluation which will be held at Central High School on March 12. For the first time ever, we are taking THREE orchestras. We are very excited to have a program that has grown in such numbers that we are able to do this. At this event, the orchestras will be graded by 3 judges for the music they have prepared and then by one judge when they sight read a piece, playing a piece of music they have never seen before with only 5 minutes prep time!

SHAKERIA GLYNN IS CTAE STUDENT OF THE YEAR!
Congratulations to Shakeria Glynn on being named the 2019 Howard High School CTAE Student of the Year. Shakeria has been a member of Howard FBLA for four years and serves as President of Community & School Involvement. Shakeria will now compete against representatives from the other high schools within our district.

Region Leadership Conference Results
Howard FBLA took 2nd Place in in the Region at the Region Leadership Conference on Friday, February 1. Over 75 students placed in various categories, with over 40 qualifying for the State Leadership Conference in March.
