Career Pathways Department

Prizegiving this year has been condensed to just the Year 13’s but we would like to celebrate the achievements of the Year 12’s who were involved in programmes in the Careers Pathway Department.

Blake Nicholson is a Year 12 student who has been both a Gateway student and a student at the local Trades Academy in 2021. Blake is an engaged young man who will begin a mechanic apprenticeship with GWD Gore in 2022.

This year Trades Academy had 29 students with a large cohort undertaking the Building and Joinery programme. This programme was split into two classes and St Peter’s students took out the top student in each class. Jak Henry and Nicola Mitchell claimed the top prize in each class.

Jenkins Motors ferried our students to Trades Academy programmes at Telford and SIT Invercargill. This is the last year that Jenkins will be involved in this role and our students made it memorable for her. The below email is from Jo Johnstone.

I would like to thank your students; Taine Evans, Emily Irwin, Dakota Shute and Dakota Tweedie for making my last year going to Telford a memorable one. Not only did they gel with the students from other schools brilliantly, they made the trip each week a pleasure. They are wonderful caring young people, who are a credit to St Peter's College and their families. They presented me with a gift on the last day and made me cry. I wish them all the very best for their futures.

Cheers Jo Johnstone, Jenkins Motors

Well done to these students for showing the true values of St Peter’s College.

Our Gateway Employers are the true stars of the Gateway programme. They take our students into their workplaces and show them how to be good employees, teach them valuable skills and devote time to showing them how an industry works. Often, they take them on as apprentices at the end of their time. We would like to acknowledge the St Peter’s College Gateway employers in 2021.
