Important News for Multilingual Learners at Lake Bluff

30 April 2021

May is almost here! One of my favorite places in our school building is the courtyard. Right now, the spring flowers are in bloom! Above you will see photos of the courtyard's daffodils, crocus, may apple, Virginia bluebells, and my favorite Wisconsin wildflower, the trillium. If you go for a forest walk in the area right now, you might find many trillium in bloom. They take five to seven years to bloom for the first time; this means it takes a lot of patience and waiting for them to flower, but once they get started, they can fill entire forest floors with their three-petaled blooms.

Article: 10 Children's Books by Arab American Authors and Illustrators

This week I came across this article listing 10 children's books by Arab American authors and illustrators. I have only read two, which I loved and have in the ML classroom: Other Words for Home (featuring the setting of Greendale, Wisconsin--a suburb of Milwaukee!), and The Proudest Blue, the story of a girl's excitement about her older sister wearing her first hijab. I will be checking out the others soon! If you ever have book recommendations for young people at Lake Bluff, please feel free to to send them my way! Happy reading!

Our hearts are with those affected by the COVID surge in India

Big picture
We at Lake Bluff know that our families may have friends, family, or coworkers who are being affected by the latest horrible COVID surge and crisis in India. Please feel free to contact me or any of the staff at Lake Bluff if your child would benefit from some special care and consideration due to this health crisis. I wish everyone safety and health.
