International Dot Day
Elementary students across the district celebrated International Dot Day on September 15. International Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration, inspired by the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds.
"The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to "make her mark". What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe."
Some schools, like Afton Elementary, (see video below) watched a livestream of International Dot Day from the Met in New York City and completed a series of activities. Others, like Walt Disney Elementary, read the book together and created their own dots. (Photo below)
The theme of "The Dot" helps children to adopt a growth mindset. It serves as a reminder of "the power of yet," which teaches them that some things are worth waiting for, and those things take work.
