We Want Your Legos!
Parents, if you have any Legos in your home that you no longer use, please donate them to St. Paul's Creative Learning Center!!! We are working to acquire enough Lego supplies to build a Lego wall for our older students, and we also need the bigger Lego blocks for our littles (PS, PK, and Kindergarten) to utilize. Wondering why Legos are so valuable in school? Here are a few reasons:
- Legos provide tools that develop lateral thinking in a fun environment;
- Legos teach kids to think in three dimensions;
- Legos improve literacy as kids work with instructions;
- Legos develop problem-solving, organization, and planning by construction;
- Legos improve creativity;
- Legos enhance communication and critical thinking;
- Legos boost kids' motor development.

Creative Learning Center News
- We have our “littles” (PS, PK) coming in for storytime and ABCMouse time on the Chromebooks.
- Next week, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades are slated to come in and do ABCMouse/storytime.
Mr. Learny
- The 3rd grade had a great time in the CLC using Lego packs to build “Mr. Learny.”
- This was a great introductory Lego activity to allow students to become familiar with constructing a predetermined object by themselves. As you can see in the pictures below, they really enjoyed it! As the Lego lessons progress, the items they construct will become increasingly more difficult.
- 4th grade got a good start on their EasyTech Technology lessons at learning.com.
- Next week the 3rd and 4th will continue learning.com/Lego lessons.
- 7th and 8th grade “Genius Hour” has begun! Genius Hour is a concept used by Google in which employees are allotted 20% of their work time to explore, create, learn, and “play” (as long as it benefits Google). Employee productivity and motivation increased exponentially, so we decided to test the concept at St. Paul this year.
- 7th and 8th graders will be given the freedom to select a topic of their choosing; conduct research; document the process via blogs and vlogs (video blogs); and create an end product to share with their classmates, teachers, parents, community, and the world. We will keep you updated on this process.

Saint Paul Youth Choir
- Saint Paul Youth Choir began rehearsals on Monday, August 29 from 3:00-4:00 pm.
- Rehearsal will continue every Monday from 3-4 pm for one hour following school.
I will pick the students up from the school at 3:00, and the rehearsals will be in the church. Please be sure to attend every rehearsal, as there will be more new material presented that evening.
Choir performances will begin Sunday, September 25th, at the 9:30 am Mass. Students should arrive no later than 9:00 am, as we will rehearse in the chapel before Mass. If, for whatever reason, your child is not able to make rehearsal on any given Monday or Mass on any given Sunday, please let me know at least a day in advance so the choir and I can plan accordingly.
If you have any questions, please email me at anthony.ransom@saintpaulschool.net . I look forward to being your child’s director for this exciting Season!
Sincerely,
Mr. Anthony Ransom

Hand Chime/Bell Ministry
Dear Friends,
Ring in the new season as Saint Paul Music Ministry announces the exploration of a new
Hand Chime /Bell ministry to our parish. St. Lawrence Catholic Church graciously loaned their hand chimes to explore beginning a Hand Chime / Bell program.
- What are Hand chimes? Hand chimes ring a rich, mellow tone when played. It is our hope that once the program is established, we would invest in Hand Bells, which ring a bright, brilliant tone.
- Rehearsals for Hand Chime / Bell choir will begin Thursday, September, 22nd at 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Blessings!
Mr. Anthony Ransom

Celebration of William Shakespeare's 400th Anniversary
Kick Off City-wide Celebration of William Shakespeare's 400th Anniversary
- Accompanied by representatives from Louisville’s arts and cultural institutions, Mayor Greg Fischer officially announced an eight-month-long, city-wide celebration of William Shakespeare called Will in the Ville. This collaborative initiative—spearheaded by the Frazier History Museum, University of Louisville, and the Louisville Free Public Library—involves more than 45 arts, cultural, and educational organizations throughout Louisville and Southern Indiana. As part of the international commemoration of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, it aims to make Louisville a “city of Shakespeare.”
- Shakespeare events begin this month and continue throughout 2016.
- “Shakespeare’s writing is timeless – beautiful and poetic – and the city is honored to host this important celebration of all things from the Bard of Avon,” Fischer said.
- The First Folio, published in 1623, seven years after Shakespeare’s death, is the first collected edition of his plays, many of which were not published during his lifetime.
- When the First Folio arrives in Louisville, its pages will be opened to the most quoted line from Shakespeare and one of the most quoted lines in the world, “To be, or not to be,” from Hamlet. Accompanying the rare book will be a multi-panel exhibition exploring the significance of Shakespeare, then and now, with additional digital content and interactive activities. "...this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to come within inches of one of the most influential books in history,” said Penelope Peavler, President & CEO of the Frazier History Museum.
- First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare premieres in Louisville at the Frazier History Museum on November 10 and will be free and open to the public. A schedule of programs, activities, and performances is available online at LFPL.org/WillintheVille. And you can follow the conversation on Twitter and Instagram using #WillintheVille.
