Nerd Herd News Announcement!

We have gone digital! In order to provide students with a copy of this semesters newsletter, we decided that this platform proved to be accessible. My team has worked hard to produce and curate the content that you have come to expect each semester. I also want to thank everyone who submitted to the newsletter this Spring. We couldn't have done it without you.

We hope that you enjoy this newsletter and consider submitting your work for Fall 2020.

Stay safe. Stay healthy.

"Lost" A Two Part Piece By Jose Morales

The authoritative figures tell you to have a plan but don't prepare you for what to do when unexpected things happen. When we experience loss, confusion comes with it. It is okay to feel that way and people should tell you that. We can't control everything. In this world where everyone wants to be the same to be accepted, when we feel lost we have two options. We either go for the safe road that is known because it has been traveled for others and succeeded or we can take an unknown road that can lead us to things that we never imagined. It is terrifying taking the unknown road, taking risks and facing things alone or being out of your comfort zone. I believe that when you have enough strength in yourself to accept that you are different and you want to take the strange road, new roads will appear. Then don’t worry if you feel lost. There’s no GPS to tell you how to come back, how to find yourself again or how to have the destinated location marked. Sometimes you need to get lost and let yourself go with the flow of life. It will be a scary journey, but there’s a reason why you are on it. Life doesn’t have a meaning; you find a meaning to life.

In honor of Jaime Del Rio Valencia and to all the people we have lost. To the people who confuse us and make our visions clear. To the people who hurt us and love us.

Find your road.

Entonces no te preocupes si te sientes perdido.

Encuentra tu camino.

Artist Statement: Social distancing really detached me from seeing all my friends daily and even though I like to stay home for fun and comfort, not being able to hug my friends and see them face-to-face is a bit isolating. To all my friends, I miss you dearly and I love you!
