FROM SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION
THANK YOU
This week marked our annual Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. Thank you to our amazing PTA and community for the overwhelming outpouring of care and support you have shown for our teachers and staff. The beautiful breakfast, flower pot filled with treats, delicious luncheon, notes, and potted plants were so kind and truly brightened the week for all staff! It was a great week here at Lisbon and we are extremely grateful to our Lisbon community, families, and PTA!
Have a great weekend!
Thank you,
Mrs. Anoff, Principal
Let’s hear it for the RED, WHITE, & BLUE:
5th Grade Simulated Congressional Hearings (SCH):
What an amazing job our 5th graders did today with their Simulated Congressional Hearings. Throughout the year, our students have studied the following four units: Colonial America, The American Revolution, Building a New Nation, and We the People. The Simulated Congressional Hearings were an authentic performance-based activity where our students demonstrated their understanding of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Throughout the day, LES students did a phenomenal job assuming the role of constitutional experts. They prepared and presented oral statements before a panel of “judges” and responded to follow-up questions. Hats off to Mrs. Curtis, Mrs. Hook, Mrs. Swanek, and Mrs. Menner for all their hard work and dedication to SCH. Your support helped make today a remarkable day at Lisbon Elementary School.

Lisbon Pride & Lisbon International Day
Thank you to everyone who attended our Lisbon Fun Run/Walk, History Tour, and International Fair! We had a few runners and several walkers. The History Tour had members from our Lisbon community as well as past and present Lisbon students.
The International Fair had over 14 countries represented and the day was filled with entertainment and delicious food. A great BIG THANK YOU to our families who shared their love of culture and personal heritage.
This day could not have been possible without our Lions Pride Committee, Mrs. Datz, our PTA President, and Mrs. Banach, the chair of our International Fair and Cultural Arts Committee! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this event.
We would also like to thank our Glenwood National Junior Scholars and the Howard County Police Department (Traffic Division) for helping us with this event.

VISITORS AND VOLUNTEERS
All volunteers and visitors must complete two trainings; HCPSS confidentiality training and child abuse and neglect training for parents. Upon completion, there are two forms to complete and turn in to the front office when you arrive.
Confidentiality Training - Certificate
Child Abuse and Neglect Training - Certificate
All visitors and volunteers need to sign in using the Lobby Guard kiosk in the front office. In order to do that, you need a government-issued identification (driver's license). The Lobby Guard program conducts a quick background check. Visitors and volunteers must wear the Lobby Guard issued visitor's badge in a prominent location while in the school building and on campus. When leaving, visitors and volunteers must sign out using the Lobby Guard badge.
Indicators of Educational Equity Survey
Prior to Spring Break, we sent a separate email to families asking everyone to complete this important survey. We have a good response rate so far with 29% of our families participating in the survey.
As part of our school improvement process, we are asking ALL families to provide input about their equity priorities for our school. Please use one of the links below to complete the survey if you have not completed the survey already. We will use your input, along with other school data, to refine our school improvement plan for the next school year.
The survey is anonymous and available in multiple languages. If you have children at more than one school, please complete one survey per school.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Anoff at debra_anoff@hcpss.org. Thank you for your time and insights!

ISO Volunteer Families for our New Lisbon Liaisons Program!!!
Do you and your family:
· Like to attend our LES Events?
· Enjoy meeting and connecting with new people?
· Want to serve as a helpful point of contact for another family?
· Care about creating a community that is invested in celebrating our diversity?
If so, please consider joining our Lisbon Liaison Program. This program was developed to ensure that all families at Lisbon feel welcome in our community and to encourage engagement with our community. The focus is on supporting two primary populations:
· Families who have recently moved to the community and have a child(ren) in attendance at Lisbon Elementary School
· Families in which the adult caretakers are not conversant in English and have a child(ren) in attendance at Lisbon Elementary School
Liaison families serve as points of contact and are familiar faces for school events and for the day-to-day questions that may arise as these families move through Lisbon Elementary. The goal of the program is to ensure that all families understand that they are valuable members of our community and to close any gaps that may exist in a family’s ability to access the resources and opportunities provided by the Lisbon Elementary School Community. If you are interested, please look for our table at the International Fair, or contact either Liz Banach at lizbanach@gmail.com or Ellen Bockelman at meabbock@gmail.com.
Thank you!

Join us as we dance “Under the Stars” at Lisbon
Why are there 2 dances this year? Are they different? What happened to the Father/Daughter Dance?
Back in 2018 the PTA general membership decided to rename the Father/Daughter Dance. We realized families look different and we wanted all our students to feel included. The Lisbon Ball was the new name we chose. At the same time, we were looking for a “Son and Their Special Adult” activity. Members thought that they would like it to be a dance, but we were not sure this is what the “sons” wanted. During an after-school activity the idea of a dance was brought up and a 4th grade young man really wanted to know why the boys didn’t get a dance like the girls. He then wrote a letter to our PTA asking for a boys dance. In 2020 the PTA sent out a survey asking what our parents wanted, 1 dance for everyone or 2 dances, one for boys and girls. The results were the same as we had at our meetings, 48% wanted 1 dance and 48% wanted 2 dances and 4% wanted it to be left alone. The PTA decided in 2022 we would hold 2 dances open to everyone and see if we should continue 2 or go back to 1. The dances were moved to May to eliminate a “snow day”. Both dances will have the same theme, DJ, photographer, refreshments, and party favor. Our students and their special adult can attend either dance. Photographs will be sent home with your child in late May.
Take away:
1. Students can suggest changes to the PTA, and we listen.
2. Our PTA surveys are very important and help us meet the needs of our families.
3. Lisbon PTA values your input, suggestions, and idea.
