Principal's Message

BRHS Families,

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a nice winter break.

As you may know, on December 8 one of our beloved teachers, John Costello, tragically passed in a vehicle accident. Coach Costello was at Broad Run High School as a teacher and coach for 25 years and a positive influence for a generation. Coach and his family have lived in our community, and his four children are Broad Run alumni. Coach was planning to retire in the spring. Our sincere condolences go out to his family as we continue to honor his legacy at Broad Run.

In the coming weeks, we will begin our course selection process. Teachers and counselors are meeting about courses being offered, and, in early February, students in grades 9-11 will begin the process to select their courses for the 23-24 school year. A significant amount of time is spent on this process. I want to encourage everyone to sign up for classes with thought. Please understand that once our process is completed, changes may not be possible. We remind students and parents course selection is much easier in the spring than in the fall. Please let any teachers, counselors, or administration know how we can help.

Seniors will receive Capstone information in the coming weeks. Please continue to check the Class of 2023 web site for updates. We will meet with seniors on February 8 to go over important dates for the spring.

As always, thank you for all you do in support of the Broad Run communit.

This year’s keynote speaker is Tara Campbell—award winning writer and teacher of speculative fiction. We invite faculty, students, and community members to offer up their talents as part of this celebration. Please see English teachers on staff or contact Beth Konkoski (Beth.Konkoski@lcps.org) or Michele Evans (Michele.Evans@lcps.org) for more details.
