It is hard to believe but we are into March already. Spring is just around the corner and that is good news for sure!
We have many activities and events scheduled throughout the month of March. Our Virtual PTO Book Fair begins this Friday, March 5. PTO is organizing a Spirit Wear Sale starting Monday, March 29. Friday, March 12 is our staff vaccination day and we are planning for a remote learning day for all students. Our Spring Break starts Monday, March 22 through Friday, March 26. Additional details about the events are posted below and in our Calendar of Events.
Thank you for being as flexible as you have been this year. As a family, you have had to endure many challenges this year in your schedules. We appreciate your continued support during these times.
Sincerely,
Sue Bamford
Counselor's Corner
The month of March will focus on the character pillar Fairness. At Parkwood, being fair includes resolving conflicts peacefully in a way that is respectful to the ideas and feelings of others, taking turns, including others, listening to other’s ideas and opinions and congratulating others for a job well done! Character Education day will take place on Wednesday, March 3rd and the pillar color is orange. Please encourage your child to wear their character education shirt or an orange shirt to celebrate!
Thank you to our Parkwood Staff and Families who supported us in raising an ASTOUNDING $1721.05 through the Penny Challenge for Feed the Creek! We are always amazed by the turnout of these events and so appreciative of your support!
Congratulations to Ms. Wisniewski’s 5th grade class and to Ms. Dieter’s preschool classes who won the penny challenge for K-5 and Parkwood Preschool. Both classes will receive a donut party later this week!
If you have any questions about testing or any part of the counseling program at Parkwood Elementary, please contact me at Cassidy.digiorgi@beavercreek.k12.oh.us or call my direct line at (937)458-2336.
SHINE Award
Mackenzie is always very RESPECTFUL toward her peers and adults. Anytime Mackenzie needs help or asks for something she is always sure to say please and thank you. Mackenzie is always respectful of our school environment and in the classroom using her good PAX Leadership skills: raising her hand, following directions and using PAX quiet. She is always respectful listening to her peers ideas while sharing.

Cognitive Ability Testing
In order for us to more appropriately respond to the needs of our students amidst the pandemic and after seeking input from teachers, Principals met last month and decided to make adjustments to CogAT testing for this school year.
Grade 2 CogAT: Second grade CogAT testing has been delayed until later this spring. Testing will now take place close to the end of the school year and will be scheduled to avoid the 3-5 state testing window.
Grade 4 CogAT: Fourth grade CogAT testing has been delayed until Fall of 2021, when the students will be in grade 5. Students who are newly identified as gifted as a result of that testing will be able to begin gifted services in fifth grade, once test results are available. Test dates will be included on the initial testing calendar and will take place close to the beginning of the school year.
SUMMARY: CogAT testing will take place late this spring for Grade 2. During next school year, CogAT testing will take place in Fall of 2021 for Grade 5, and in Winter 2022 for Grade 2 and 4.
